Too busy on a junket to Vegreville to study their take on 21st century architecture? Will you PLEASE stop doing this to your city???????

I agree with Murman - the project is a FRICKEN joke - the Design Committee mandate needs to be broadened to beyond downtown!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sure it's a POS lowrise, but let's not kid ourselves, there are plenty of these in other cities. Yes Vancouver, even you.

So that somehow absolves Edmonton? For shame.

And PS... for all we know, by concrete they mean concrete block. Now that's fitting for Edmonton.

[rapid_business]

If the EDC had control outside of downtown, Carrington and Park Place would be out of business. (@ Carrington... Urban Village!?! You have to be kidding...)

Murman. 🞵🞵🞵🞵 does have to be built in every city. I'm thankful this is not downtown, or in a very prominant area.

🞵🞵🞵🞵 HAS to be built? Not in my universe.

I'm glad you're not on the design committee.

I continue to be surprised how many Edmontonians feel they have to justify mediocrity. Maybe I should stop being surprised, and just come to expect it as one of Edmonton's many charms.

Don't forget that we should also be thankful it's not a tall highrise, either!

I've lived in several cities and I've seen a fair amount of 🞵🞵🞵🞵. In Vancouver, the massive numbers of stick- built condos with leaky building envellopes and interior humidity problems is an example of poor design and improper applicaton for the environment. In Calgary, there are stick built condos all around the beltline, low rise condos where proper planning should have stepped in, and a proliferaton of conversion projects, in which 50 year old buildngs are given a gaudy facelift and sold as new, even though the building mechanicals and power systems are left original. Disgusting. Some of the original condos on the west end are pretty uninspiuring as well. Edmonton designs seem to be uninspiring, take the condos on 109 street north of the Save-on for example.

It's getting better in Calgary and Edmonton, but a far cry from the good projects going up in Port Moody and Downtown Vancouver.

[feepa]

Someone please help this post out.
We need to help adjust attitudes about Downtown Edmonton.

Well, your universe must just delete things as you wisk away in your vehicle off to la-la land, where everything is of perfect taste and completely utopian. Oh wait, you are from Lotus Land, god, theres nothing wrong with anything built in Vancouver, or Calgary, or Toronto, or ______? get real man
Are you oblivious to the world around you?
Sometimes, I think you are bang on with your post murman, but this ... just reaks of you trying to be an all out elistist, saying this 🞵🞵🞵🞵 is limited to Edmonton.
Yes, I dont like this project, but thank god its out of the core, not in a valueable location, and damn, its not a highrise. I'm not even sure why it made this thread.

Ya, and this project isn't being built in Downtown Edmonton, or Ole Strathcona.

Those condos you refer to are 🞵🞵🞵🞵, and built during a economic slump. Are you trying to tell me theres nothing in Vancouver thats uninspiring that has been built in the last 10-15 years?

Think of the current projects that are starting to get built now, such as Century Park, and Icon. This is the way our latest development is going.

You'll like my new sig then. I've never said there aren't design horrors elsewhere. Trust me, quite the opposite. In Edmonton's case however, it's almost as if the city excels in design mediocrity, with absolutely no clue about how to pull itself out of its small-town very-prairie mindset. There's a big world out there; discover it and learn from it.

STOP DEFENDING MEDIOCRITY.

Oh, sorry, my mistake.

These are PERFECT reasons for Edmonton to build 🞵🞵🞵🞵:

1) it's not downtown

2) other cities have 🞵🞵🞵🞵 too

I would argue, murman, that you are not the target demographic for Edmonton, so I wouldn't worry too much.

Edmonton isn't for everybody. Those that believe the opposite are typically Blind Vancouverites that can't see beyond their utopian like dream world.

What makes you think that this is a Vancouver vs. Edmonton thing? Not sure how you reached that conclusion, but if it makes your belief system align properly, have at 'er.

That thing in garneau makes me want to cry.

Edmontonians SHOULD NOT DEFEND THIS KIND OF PROJECT

🞵🞵🞵🞵 IS NOT ACCEPTABLE....simple as that, vancouver, calgary, edmonton...doesnt matter.

"not a prominent area".....i seem to have forgotten that the borders of garneau have become a slum....

Edmonton can choose its future and if this is the way we are going, i dont know how much longer i can be here.

[CDE]

Plain and simple that Garneau project is a combination of a 🞵🞵🞵🞵 developer and a 🞵🞵🞵🞵 architect/builder teaming up. Brutal incompetence.
