As was explained to me, a typical Kirkland person feels that their current view is a distraction to getting more work done. Many have their desks in their offices turned so they can't even see out the windows.

actually I love where Kirkland is located now, next to the lake, across from the bean, taste of chicago in the summer. but desk/office space is down to a minimum right now. for most kirkland employees, the new location means more space, more privacy, it's not really about the view.

i did see a previous post that said kirkland leaves the lights on 24/7 to show off the fact that they can afford it. i guess kirkland can afford to pay it because there are attorneys who are up all night long multiple days during the week working in their offices, hence the lights on all night. who wants to work in the dark?

quick question for anyone who might know....coming from the orange line at clark & lake, are we going to be crossing the river to get to 300 north lasalle?

I'm also a local attorney in one of the big firms and, yes, y'all can afford it. Kirkland is Chicago's most profitable law firm.

If you transfer to the brown line at Clark/Lake, the Merchandise Mart station will be about a block and a half, maybe two, from 300 N La Salle

Better: get off the orange line at Clark/Lake station and walk across the Wacker Drive and then Chicago River.

When I first saw drawings of 300 (and to a lesser extant Waterview) it struck that this design strongly reminded me of another, older, building. I found it thumbing threw one of my architectual sources. The Inland Steel building (1954) on Monroe. If Inland were three times taller the resemblence would be uncanny!

The fins and curtin wall and stainless steel finish/color. Thought there were others in NYC that bore a strong resemblence.

Inland certainly had a number of firsts which are more structural than design related. A much better design than say Pru1. Is it a precurser to much of todays architecture including 300? It seems to be. I lean towards 860-880 LSD as the most infuencial post WWII buildings based on the number of derivative buildings that came after it in the 50s, 60s and early 70s.

Perhaps the two most infuencial post WWII buildings. Good topic for discussion for the Arch thread, we are getting a little off tract here. Unlike Inland, I like the way the ribs carry into the roof line on 300.
