I heard construction is about to start in a couple of months, despite the poor sales. - although poor sales for trump still equals 250 million dollars of real estate sold.

enforced height limit (Sapphire) and an inferior, overpriced product (Trump which may still be built)

good for Nashville although a thousand footer within a city with ~15 completed highrise is little ridiculous

^^I know, Nashville in terms of design, is even blowing Vancouver out of the water. I never thorught that would happen.

we don't have visionaries anymore. sapphire got blown out of the water because some fatass poloticians didn't want a shadow cast over the precious city hall for 5 minutes.

Vancouver has its reasons, but within the next 20 years there is bound to be a 700+ footer being built in the downtown eastside area. Vancouver has nowhere to go but up now, unless they want highrises on the southend of false creek. Speaking of which, if they put highrises on the southern shore of false creek, they may ease the hight restriction on the main penninsula by another 100 feet or so.

When is the trump building going to start though? Its a fantastic tower, but what a reddiculously small plot it has.

" sapphire got blown out of the water because some fatass poloticians didn't want a shadow cast over the precious city hall for 5 minutes."

I'd take the extra 5 minutes of sunlight on Toronto's most important public space over this tacky piece of shit ruining our diginified skyline

" Its a fantastic tower"

no, its not

Whats so dignified about your skyline? It's big? woopdy do. it looks small because you have the current tallest structure on earth standing beside it. You need to break the 1000 foot barrier by a large margin with one if not two buildings if you want the skyline to look sizeable, by atleast 200 feet.

But I can see how the tower wouldn't fit in well, but toronto needs something that isn't just a box or a triangle thats covered in stone. Atleast the trump building has reasonable complexity to it aswell as glass. Still think it would be worth more than 5 minutes of sunshine, what politician is outside at all during the day anyways?

Although scotiabank tower is coplex in shape, overall it is still flat faced and essentially a crooked box with indentations at the top. Current trend in north america is for landmark towers to be going up, toronto of all places should be following suit, although I don't believe sapphire tower would be that landmark, and niether is trump.

By the way, whats wrong with trump tower, the fact that its trump building it? As far as I can tell that is its only fault, although it is making the skyline look flat.

Toronto would look terrible if it had buildings that were taller then the cn tower. the cn tower is soon going to be the centre peice on the skyline after the cityplace is finished and it will look good with the tallest structure in the middle and smaller buildings on both sides

That's crazy but I don't see how that can be sustainable.

i don't think that one person meant to build a building 200 feet taller than the cn tower..he/she meant 200 feet taller than the tallest building per se...either way a height restriction in toronto or a concern for shadows is absurb in my opinion. toronto certainly should follow suit in creating a truly signature tower for it's city that is a building and not just a 'tower' such as the cn and i thought the cylindrical design of sapphire was great compared to the boxy buildings generally built in this country.

neilioo,

The back side is too light. You can't see the curving edge.

Damn you hit it right on the button. Hence why I liked sapphire, It stood out and was 150 feet tallet than the next building. To bad... Toronto needs something like the new 1000 footer going up in nashville, except bigger.

Its "he by the way, good job on being poliitically correct.

ya...to the tip of the spire though, the roof itself is pretty much at 1000ft, and the "roof" of the building which actually has any surface area is only around 280m...in other words, the FCP with its 298m roof and 355m antenna will still make Trump look smaller, FCP will remain the signature tower even when trump is dead, for a signature tower in Toronto we need somthing atleast 1150ft roof (1200ft spire) or just 1200 to the roof and no spire (which is my prefered option)

DOn't know if anyone's mentioned it yet, but Sapphire Tower has been resubmitted. The cylindrical tower is gone now, and the height's been reduced to 62 storeys. The tower will have a pyramidal top instead. I haven't seen a colour rendering, so I have no clue what materials are being used, but I'm sure it will be similar to the original design.

Personally, i think it still looks like a POS.

EDIT: Ooops... this is old news. I thought it was fresh and new when i got iton my desk
