Yeah, tell her to check out the Aqua discussion in SSP forum but stay away from SSC. I couldn't understand why some Chicago forumers in SSC dissed Aqua but liked LL's proposed 40-story residence at Michigan Ave.

I'm doing my best. she said that she would probably be able to send me the info by the end of the week.

I sent her the link yesterday along with my information request. I spoke with her for about 10 minutes yesterday afternoon. She's cool!!

Thanks, BVictor! You are still doing a great job! One more thing: what about the development on vacant tract between BCBSIL HQ and Aqua?

Don't know. I never read if the LSE developers ever regained control over that parcel. They sold it off, then I believe tried to get it bcak, but I don't know if they were successful.

Also, I just came from the LSE sales center, and I was told that marketing is to begin on Aqua April 1st and that's only 2 1/2 weeks away.

Don't know if this is still active, but last year a VP for Target identified this site as a possible for a new, multistory store stepping down from Columbus to Lakeshore East Park. Sounds kind of odd, but then again, it has plentiful parking (lower levels), there's very little traffic nearby, 115,000 sf would be impossible to find on State Street proper (although back before the sale, the top floors of Field's was floated as a possibility!), and they've proven many times that their customers will find them regardless of where they locate.

The retail base on this is still large enough to accommodate something on that scale, although I'm sure that if it were still active we'd see some concession to Target branding on the renderings of the base.

^Not any more, the Target plan is out. I'm slightly dissapointed because a multi-level store of that nature would do a ton in boosting pedestrian activity on the bare stretch of Upper Columbus.

Well, if no one else is going to do a diagram of this tower, I guess I could give it a try when I do the texture for my model. Fordham Spire came out alright after all. I'm thinking of a color of around R:120 G:170 B:180, though maybe darker, like 120,165,175 respectively.

Well, here's the first attempt. For those who are suprised, yes, I do use paint for most of my prelim work. Rarely do I feel the need to use GIMP or any other high-end graphics program for the 3D models. I'll add the fancy bump and reflect maps later, also motly using ol' paint. The bump map is the one that will give Aqua its unique wavy appearence and will likely require GIMP's high end features to get right.

However, my basic concern right now is color (which will be darker and less vivid than shown below, but still the same tint) and the banding. Does anyone else see Aqua differently than I do?

This building was done entirely in MSPaint and is a good example of the final product. For those interested, I'm also doing 300N LaSalle and either 900 N Michigan or the Legacy. Depends on my mood. EDIT: Went with 900 North.

It's probably safe to say this will become the World's Tallest Building Designed By a Woman. Another superlative for Chicago.
Not that this is super interesting to me, but I'm sure some media will pick up on it and Chicago will gain a little notoriety for it.

Well maybe the tallest in the US designed by a woman. The Emirates Towers in Dubai were both designed by Hazel Wong, and they're over 1000 feet each.

He's right, though. This tower does have the potential.

I don't know about the Daley Center being the best building in Chicago. That's certainly up for debate! But the Aqua will definitely be a serious contender!

I decided to wait for more detailed and finalized renders and/or drawings before doing the Aqua texture. but I've got a few aerial pics of the area. I'll render a couple street shots and edit them to this post as well.

EDIT More massing shots of Aqua, as promised. I was trying to get close in, so the tower was visible from ground to crown, which required a wide angle lense and resulted in some forced perspectives.

well, the daley center is easily top 5, with aqua being a serious contender to bump someone out of this elite group (fordham spire could also cause a stir at the top as well).

chicago's current 5 best skyscrapers:
1. daley center
2. inland steel
3. marina city
4. hancock
5. lake point tower

potential x-factors in the future:
1. fordham spire
2. aqua
