Hey you found it! Yeah you're right. Didn't really want this to get attention here. Just thought it would be a friendly thing about competing heights on the Gulf Coast. But, yes, you are right. Back to the topic at hand...

Just kidding.
Actually, I don't think gold is one of our official Mardi Gras colors, I could be wrong on this, but I thought our official colors were purple and green, not that it matters. cause the gold still goes in decorations

However, if it could be arranged so that during Mardi Gras season, the crowns of the two respective buildings would be lighted in our official Mardi Gras colors (I know we only have two, and I know one of them is purple, and I'm fairly sure the other is green) that would be a positive thing, I seem to recall seeing somewhere where they did this with a building in Charlotte in advance of the Panthers losing the Superbowl (didn't think they'd lose at the time obviously)

I thought the propsed Mardi Gras Park was to have a tower that lit up in MG colors at the top during carnival season? What ever happened to that plan? I remember seeing a rendering...

the mardis gras park is still a go, they're still clearing out the old courthouse for demolition. but it's definitely still moving forward. i went to the mbile carnival museum over the summer and they had a nice model of it there. it's gonna be pretty nice- there'll be the tower that you mentioned and aslo some statues of the excelsior band, among other commemorative things.

Cool - I need to check that out. What is it 3 - 5 stories tall?

I also believe there is supposed to be an extensive fountain/fire type of system there.

LOL New Orleans has the best skyline in the south?!$#@!$@!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Please, have you ever been to Miami or Atlanta?
Atlanta's skyline ain't all that; too many potholes, lack of "pure" density and slow growth; Miami's skyline, on the other hand, has got to be the biggest, densest, fastest growing skyline both in depth, propensity and tallness!

looks like the rsa is topped out on concrete, i saw several 18 wheelers with steel bars on the back parked next to it on water street, looks like crown time.

Word on the street is that there will be a "topping off" ceremony on December 2 when the crown is finally hoisted to the top of the building. Don't know specifics, though.

"Topping Out" usually refers to completion of the structural frame, not the installation of spires/finials/crowns/fiberglass gew-gaws.

For those

not sure what a gewgaw is

gewgaw \G(Y)OO-gaw\, noun:
A showy trifle; a trinket; a bauble.

or basically the entire strip in Las Vegas

Since the RSA webcam is down yet again...does anyone have super recent photos to post? Any details on the topping out ceremony? When? Where? Are they assembling the crown and spire onsite and lifting it into place via a helicopter?

I can't wait to see the tower with the crown and spire!!! Talk about a great Christmas gift for Mobile!!!!!

I know they're assembling the spire then lifting it, but I don't know how. December 2nd can't come soon enough.
