Only thing keeping is the mechanical penthouse. The rest is vulgar in its bland form and deficiencies in its one architectural feature being the arches.

50 storey zoning is pretty much the standard near any transit station for better or worse in Toronto.

You gotta sell it and I can't see this selling.

A few projects that have or will start construction soon in Ottawa.

This Paris looking building in Westoboro Village. 424 Churchill, 8 floors, around 58 units, one retail unit fronting Byron Avenue. It's going up the hill between Richmond and Byron, replacing a laundromat.

Next one is an Ottawa Community Housing (OCH) project at 200 Beausoleil in Lowertown. About 159 units.

And finally phase 1 of the former Greyhound bus terminal redevelopment at 265 Catherine. This one from Gatineau's Brigil. The first tower is 32 floors, 420 units, over a thousand when the entire development is complete. Even at 32 floors, it will be the 4th tallest in the Downtown/Centretown/LeBreton area, and 8th tallest in Ottawa. Tons of much needed retail and open space in this part of Centretown.

First phase is the tower and block on the right.

One of the coolest proposals in Ottawa has been severely downgraded however, it's still a great proposal. No official application yet, but someone found this, a slide deck for the retail space for lease. Occupation 2031. They really seem to want a grocery store, desperately needed. The area might be the densest food desert. A grocery store would also serve Carleton University students (one station south) and hospital staff from the new Civic u/c across the street.

Office tower is 7 floors with 17k square feet of retail and 90k square feet of office space. Residential tower seems to be 35 to 40 floors with 295 units.

The retail and offices, at least, have a tunnel to the O-Train station.

Here's the old proposal from 13 years ago. 18, 45 and 55 floors. All residential.

The developer is Richcraft. They usually have half a dozen or so proposals on the go, and build one or two at a time. Slow and steady kind of developer. Some higher mid-range stuff in the city.

A couple more proposals for Calgary. This first one is for the Brentwood train station. It's 7 buildings and 1,550 units. It includes a tie into the train station and a high street with a grocery store, the high street will connect through to the adjacent multi tower development.. The grocery store exists already, but this moves it to another location and takes away the parking lot between it and the train station.

Brentwood Crossing

I've noticed the quality of renderings has gotten significantly worse recently. Just like everything else AI touches - it makes it easier to create things, but also makes for an objectively worse finished product.

I sort of worry about the long term consequences on people's shared reality. Like if perspective defying, anatomically impossible, metamorphic Ai slopscapes become the majority of what we see, will people lose touch with reality. Until I saw the rendering larger on my desktop and someone pointed out the bad Ai, I hadn't noticed the mutant vehicles in the bottom right parking lot, or the mashed together buildings in the background. I even thought maybe the wonky perspective on the actual condo podium was part of the design until seeing the second better quality rendering.

Likewise, even though I don't personally use Ai like ChatGPT, I am starting to have a bit of an internal struggle when writing. The constant Microsoft e-mail Ai corrections etc. are beginning to make me question my own natural writing style in a way that makes it both more curt and impersonal and more convoluted somehow at the same time.

I assume we have good technology to create renderings fairly easily too. Like even without AI, it was probably a thousand times easier to create something nice looking in 2020 than 2000. I wish we could go back to continuous technological improvement without AI turning everything into slop.

Two new projects in Québec City.

Can't find the name of this one but it will house 68 appartments and is situated near downtown on Lelièvre boulevard.
