The $100M for the Halifax stadium would be private funds and on top of this the company proposing it is providing public benefits to justify the public land use.

Halifax is in a weird range where some people think of it as a small town (partly because it's in the Maritimes) and this extends to locals. There's a "we can't afford nice things" attitude that can be selectively weaponized by city councillors; they bring it up for projects they don't like but spend on projects they do like. The annual budget for the municipality is $1.6B, yet the media will present a $100M transit project as though it is a make-or-break gambit. Given the value of the Canadian dollar there will be times these days that medium-sized cities will need to spend in the hundreds of millions, or they'll be hamstrung with too-small infrastructure and constant band-aid projects. That is where Halifax is right now.

Apparently the PQ is promising a stadium for Quebec City to attract a CFL team. That's... surprising. 25k seats at the site of the Colisée Pepsi.

The separatists want to join the CFL? That's kinda hilarious!

Separatism aside, football is hugely popular in Quebec. Much more popular than in Ontario and probably on par with Western Canada I would imagine.

and it could become even more popular if David Gabriel Georges reaches his full potential in the next few years. Perhaps the most exciting football prospect in canadian history and he comes from Quebec.

Not that many people are talking about it because its hard to follow high school football in the US, but if this guy becomes a college football star running back and eventually starting RB in the NFL it would be huge.

Oh for sure, I'm actually amazed there is no team in QC already.

I'm going to be in the house for the Flames home opener tomorrow, crazy that this is the final season in the Saddledome! Going to be in my seat super early to see any tributes and throwbacks they show.

A decade of Rogers Place. Is Edmonton better off?

I think Edmonton is better off, but the Ice District seems to have fizzled a bit. The demand for living and working in DT Edmonton is lagging, and that's probably the main factor.
