Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. That amount - over 100,000 undercount - seems a little suspicious imo. I find it hard to believe official census-taking data would be that far off in their estimate. It's possible the incentive to respond with this alternative measure could result in the fudging of the numbers even if the incentive is rather small.

90% of this BS ALberta Separation propaganda is coming from places outside of Canada, let alone Alberta. Most of the people spreading this garbage, are being paid to do so by Russians, Americans, or even India or China. It is NOT organic. Unlike me, I realize you have not lived in ALberta for nearly 50 years, but I have spent the majority of the 21st century there.

I can tell you, without hesitation, that very few in the two big cities (Calgary and Edmonton) support ALberta breaking off from Canada. Probably around 10%. IN rural areas it's most likely higher, but in no place do the majority of Albertans want to break off from Canada.

Stop going on Twitter and following a bunch of bots, to get an accurate read of what the consensus is in that province. Truth be told, there is little difference between Albertans and Manitobans, especially in rural areas.

I'm not sure you can conclude the population as a whole was undercounted. It's the status of Indigenous and Metis populations that the report suggests was undercounted. There are two reasons why this might be true.

The main census that tries to reach everbody living in Canada doesn't ask about Indigenous status. Only the longer more detailed census that goes to 25% of households looks at that topic (and many others), and it's quite possible that Indigenous and Metis populations aren't fully captured in that part of the census process, which has a lower response rate than the shorter form.

People living in collective dwellings, or no dwellings, aren't asked about their status as part of the census. That means the homeless, those in hospital, hostels, care homes, single-room-occupancy facilities, prisons etc aren't asked about their status - they're effectively just counted, and their ages, gender and marital status recorded. We know that the population in facilities like this is more likely to have an Indigenous or Metis background, but that won't be reflected in the census data.

I don't follow Twitter or any other social media platform. I may not have lived in Alberta for almost 50 years, but I've certainly had to listen to their whining for that long. "Waah... Ottawa is robbing us! Waah... Canada doesn't deserve us!" Makes my eyes roll. You're right about ill-informed, conservative rural voters versus more educated, liberal city dwellers. Same thing happened in the '95 Quebec referendum. Greater Montreal voted no, the rest of Quebec voted yes. I'm pleased that you're confident that the vast majority of Albertan's don't want to separate. They need to take a break from their whining and get aligned with the rest of Canada because, currently, they are the weakest link in our sovereignty. Danielle Smith is a trojan horse.

I actually lived in Alberta for 15 years in this century, and know that very few Albertans go on about what you say. A vote to separate from Canada would be lucky to receive more than 25% in total.

Well the new population estimates for Q3 are up, for Canadian provinces, and Manitoba is said to have 1,517,379 people, up by 8,797 people from this time one year ago.

Which according to my calculations, means that the Winnipeg CMA currently has around 958,000.

Slowly, by surely, we are approaching the elusive 1,000,000 mark.

A shout-out to the residents of West St.Paul, the fastest growing area in the metro area!

There are actually closer to nearly 600,000 Manitobans outside the Winnipeg CMA. Brandon has nearly 60,000 people. 30,000 people reside in the Winkler-Morden corridor. There are probably over 20,000 people in Steinbach and the surrounding vicinity.

It would be interesting to have 3 similar sized cities like New Brunswick, but from what I hear, Moncton is pulling away from Saint John and Fredricton.

Usually in February next year for the annual CMA estimates. For the official Census results, I believe they come out at around the same time.

I will have to make a new poll.
