There is a queue jump when exit Phibbs for the bus to directly go into the outermost lane bypass all onramp traffic. After that, then it's general traffic lane.

Most of the time congestion from North Van is on the ramp and approach to the bridge, so the bus is able to bypass that. But if the traffic jam is on the Vancouver side, then there will be a problem...

And yes, the south side is probably a bigger issue...

I mean they have a queue jump from the Vancouver side of Hastings but it might be difficult to widen the onramp. It's possible they could have buses go up Cassiar (the residential side street) and build some kind of ramp from there to the McGill bus shoulder ramp.

Is it me or has the quality of riders declined recently?

Was getting off the train yesterday on my way to work and this guy was just standing on the platform right in front of me just staring like I was in his way.

"Excuse me" with a brush past/push works fine for me. This has happened everywhere except Japan IME.

I haven't noticed it being particularly bad recently. That's been a thing since Skytrain opened - some times it's worse than other times but it's always been there.

That shouldn't need to be done, people should know to let people off before they get on.

I’ve seen floor graphics work well for this (but it can only be done if all trains have doors in the same place… Canada Line maybe?)

YVR-Airport has them, I don’t believe any others. It's definitely a bigger issue when everyone standing on the platform has luggage.

Whose idea was it to use row seating for a train to the airport? Every time I'm on the Canada line I see travellers with luggage needing to shimmy their luggage between the seats leaving them no room to comfortably sit. Longitudinal seating would definitely be the way to go

I guess it's the trade-off for a line that serves two roles (commuters and airport traffic). Are the airport and Richmond trains a 50-50 split? Would it be feasible to convert a few cars and have them only on the trains programmed for the Airport branch?

Generally longitudinal is considered worse for longer trips because there aren't as many seats. It allows for higher overall capacity due to increased standing and circulating room but about 30% fewer people can sit down when fully longitudinal. Only issue is, I don't think the Canada line is really long enough for that to be a major issue. The timetable has a complete trip from Richmond-Brighouse to Waterfront as only about 1/2 hour.

There's also the issue that some people don't like longitudinal because it's awkward. You have your back to the closest window so if you want to look outside you either have to look past the people facing you on the other side or, when it is standing room only with people blocking the view, just accept that you can't see and immerse yourself in your phone or something.

The unions and CMBC have reached a new (third for those not keeping track) tentative agreement, membership votes on ratification tomorrow. If they vote to reject the agreement they go to a full strike ceasing all bus and Seabus service starting Tuesday.

Pretty sure Metrotown is further from downtown Vancouver than Richmond, let alone Surrey, and especially let alone Langley, and the Expo Line has always had longitudinal seating no? Not sure why they made that decision for the Canada Line.
