4 hospitalized, portion of Brickell Bay Drive closed after piling rig collapse

MIAMI — Four people were hospitalized and a portion of Brickell Bay Drive is closed following a piling rig collapse Monday morning, according to authorities.
Miami police said Brickell Bay Drive is currently closed between Southeast 12th Street and Southeast 13th Street.
Witnesses told Local 10’s Samiar Nefzi that the rig collapsed onto three vehicles, sparking a fire.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials confirmed that four people were transported to local hospitals after a “complex rescue operation.”
According to MDFR Lt. Pete Sanchez, the victims included three workers, two of whom had to be cut out of a container and the rig operator, who jumped out as it was tipping over. The fourth victim was a woman who backed up her white BMW just enough as the rig was falling that she wasn’t killed.
