Reddit consensus is that the name “Dave Barrett Extension” will be used as much as “Evergreen Extension” is today. Which is to say, while it may be on the official signage, most will not use the name in their day to day life.

I wonder once the Broadway Subway and OMC 4 open, will Translink use the Evergreen Extension/Line or still have two Expo lines?

Or will the Expo line go from Waterfront to Arbutus and the Dave Barrett line from Waterfront to Langley?

I have a feeling Dave Barrett will only appear on a plaque or two.

Seems ironic (or perhaps poignant) that the current NDP government would look to honour a premier and government that didn't last an entire term and was toppled after a period of economic stagflation and undermining of resource development.

The "Dave Barrett Line" doesn't exist, nor does the "Evergreen Line" as I have seen and heard some people call it. They are simply extensions of the Millennium Line and Expo Line respectively.

There are still people who live in Metro Vancouver in 2026 and think that the Evergreen Extension is completely separate from the Millennium Line. I saw someone asking today if you will have to transfer at King George to get to the new Dave Barrett Line. This will only confuse people who don't know a lot about local transit like people in this forum do.

I will call it the "Expo Line" all the way to Langley. It is kind of dumb to change the name of a transit line mid-track. Now it would make sense if at King George Station another line branched off towards Newton, to call the Langley Branch Dave Barrett.

Remember they had the opportunity to call VCC-Clark Station "Glen-Clark Station" but didn't.

Evergreen Line was used as the project name, probably because at one point it was proposed as a separate at grade LRT line. Even though it’s always been Evergreen Extension while operating some people will forever use the first name they heard.

Here it’s extension from the beginning, I agree that some people will still get confused but that’s inevitable.

It really does get into semantics with referring to the physical section of guideway as opposed to the operating route of the trains. Some people just don’t really care so much as to understand the difference. Expo Line is still just the operating route. One wouldn’t correctly refer to the guideway through the original segment as the Expo Line, it’s just the Skytrain guideway.

I don’t really care for the whole practice, I suppose it just gives the politicians something easy and clear to say as an achievement.

Unfortunately, low-information people will confuse the name of the infrastructure with the name of the service that runs on it and that is only amplified by the media doing poor reporting.

For an 'official' name that won't get used, it does seem appropriate based on the press release (i.e. as Premier, Barrett oversaw largescale expansion of BC Transit service south of the Fraser in Surrey, Delta, White Rock, and Langley).

Makes more sense than the Horgan Dam considering Horgan wasn't really a supporter of Site C.

"This is an Expo Line train to Langley City Centre."

People will refer to it based on what they see and hear… and Dave will get a commemorative plaque somewhere.

I assume we'll also get commemorative Compass Cards with Barrett's name on them like we did for the Evergreen Extension?

Well, he was elected into the position where he had to give a thumbs up or thumbs down on the entire project. I thought it was to his credit that he reviewed the state of affairs dispassionately and concluded that it should go ahead despite his misgivings about how it had got to that point. The dam was completed solely because of his decision. So I think it's a fitting enough name.

No reason to believe it’s behind schedule, there’s still nine months of guideway construction left. It should take no more than five months to complete the section from the Serpentine River steel span to 166th.

I was gantry operator there and we parked it about a couple weeks ago. The crane could not make the span as it was 16 segments wide. We only ever went 12 segments and even shorter as we went down the hill. Cool stuff and I think it only works because we were part of a good team
They were also waiting to finish a concrete pour before the gantry could resume progress.

Quote:
It hasn't moved from its position at the bottom of the hill for about three weeks. The next move is a significant one because it will come off the extra-long 16-segment span over the future 72 Avenue, and the gantry's supports will have to transfer onto the Con-Force spans for the first time.
A third Con-force span was installed last night, which appeared to be needed before the final top cap could be installed. Is the concrete pour now the last major prerequisite before the gantry can move again?

In the update I posted today, Clayton Clipper had already completed this span with 16 segments, and that’s where it was parked as of yesterday. It seems like what I suggested in the comments on the video—that it might need to wait for those precast girders to be completed—might be true. Do I understand that correctly?
