I've watched videos of store openings at Polo and it looked pretty normal.
No, Polo Park is definitely not that bad. It's pretty normal, overall. Your friend is exaggerating. Still, I've been noticing more sketchy people there over the years.

I strongly disagree. Polo Park may not have reached Surrey levels of issues yet but the character of people in the mall has changed over the past 10 years significantly for the worst. It used to be stories from mall employees would be about memorable customers or local celebrities seen in the mall. Now stories are almost always about a mental health issue, drug use, or physical assaults.

If it bleeds, it leads. It's fine.

Im not sure what the hard on is to label Polo Park and some kind of failing down trodden mall. It's not Portage Place. Are you getting the two PP's mixed up?

Anytime I go to polo it's no different than anything else I go to. There's some sketchy people, that's life in Winnipeg. Otherwise, it's fine I take my kids there and let them toddle along. It's fine.

If we're expecting the finest clothing retailers to set-up shop, get over it. Winnipeggers are too cheap for that — or they'd be here. It's not because Polo Park is failing.

not local, but interesting from a Canadian perspective

Westons to buy U.K. pharmacy chain Boots for US$8.9B.

The family behind Canada’s biggest pharmacy and grocery chains is growing its empire with the acquisition of U.K. drugstore Boots. Weston family holding company Wittington Investments says it will purchase Boots for US$8.9 billion (almost $12.7 billion), including debt, from private equity firm Sycamore Partners.

Along with Boots’ retail operations in the U.K. and Ireland, Wittington will acquire its operations in Thailand and franchised businesses, its optical division and No7 Beauty Company.

Boots is among Britain’s most prominent retailers and has many similarities to Shoppers Drug Mart, the Canadian pharmacy giant with ties to the Westons. The Westons are best known in Canada for building Loblaw Cos. Ltd. and George Weston Ltd. and owning luxury department store Holt Renfrew.

The Weston family previously owned Selfridges, currently owns Primark, and has various other UK and EU retail operations both past and present. The Boots deals is likely to be kept wholly separate from their Canadian food and drug business unless we start seeing Holt Refrew replacing Joe Fresh in Superstores across the country... Also it is somewhat surprising to me the health and beauty sections of Superstore have not effective become a Shoppers store within a store concept.
