Sussex has an impressive number of restaurants given its population. What is the population, like 5000? I guess it is a lot more with the surrounding towns and villages.

Just on the chain fast food front - McDonald's, KFC, Burger King, Dairy Queen, Subway, Tim Horton's, Greco, Pizza Hut, Dixie Lee and then a bunch of independents.

Even if the design didn't hint at Wendy's, I am not sure what else it could be. Didn't they lose their A&W a few years back? I can't see a Popeyes or Mary Browns. Can't think of any other big drive-through restaurants off the top of my head.

Sussex has an impressive amount of services in general, I assume because it is a regional centre for a lot of surrounding rural communities, it far out-paces most towns its size when it comes to shopping, services, employment diversity, etc.

The growth of tourism has really helped too, being the gateway to the Fundy Parkway, and having Poley Mountain just outside of town means they get a lot of visitors or people passing through at all times of year.

The town is definitely going to be reaping the benefits of the growth of the three cities too, it's ideally positioned for local tourism, sport, and leisure spending.

Looks like the Tantramar gas plant got the go-ahead. A real shame. I was hoping the locals would nix it and force construction to Saint John.

Quote:
the new school will expand to accommodate Grade 5 students, who currently attend Salisbury Regional School. The new building will be 45 per cent larger than the existing elementary school and include dedicated spaces for music, performing arts and student support services, as well as a multi-function room designed to support educational and community activities.
Quote:
the new school will be a boost for the town, which tripled in size during the province’s municipal reform. It now has a population of more than 8,300. It now extends to Moncton city limits on the north side of the Petitcodiac River and to Riverview on the south side of the river.
Quote:
The anglophone district is in the midst of several other school projects. A new K-12 school is under construction on Ohio road in Shediac and expected to open in 2029. A new K-8 replacement school for Forest Glen/Sunny Brae is expected to be ready in 2030.

Another K-12 school is planned for Dieppe but no opening date has been set. As the new Salisbury elementary goes into service in 2030, the Salisbury Regional School will go from Grades 5-12 to 6-12.

No great surprise here but the conversion of Belledune is going ahead and they have the suppliers sorted out.

About time for Coleson Cove to get converted to natural gas too. It's crazy we've got 1050 MW there and 450 MW in Belledune we've been reluctant to turn on.

More rural news today, and it's not good news. On the one hand, I don't want them to pour money into a hole, but maybe there is a way to save the place. Devastating for the town.

Nackawick only exists because of the mill. This is very upsetting. I remember some 20 years ago the mill was at risk of closing and came through. Let's hope this will be true again.

Agreed. I'm pretty staunchly anti-emitting generation and industry, but we need these plants for base load and should prioritize making them as clean as possible so we can rely on them more consistently until the new reactor(s) at Pt. Lepreau are online - which could be a decade from now or more.

~6.5MW biogas plant has broken ground outside Sussex. Enough to power about 2,500 homes. Will sell directly to NB Power. Not impressive in scale, but interesting. Good to diversify energy base I guess.

It's a great project that uses existing waste from agriculture and aquaculture to produce natural gas. The only concern I've seen is the odour; as long as it isn't like that shellfish plant up north, I don't think it will be an issue. Sussex already smells like cows.

Tammy posted some pics on the Woodstock FB group. Looks like there's another apartment building going up on Water Street, around where the Elk's club is. This is the same group that did the Home Hardware apartment flip.

Her comment:

Water street is looking quite different these days .New Apartment Building is being built by the Elks Club.Same people who did the old Home Hardware.Alot of fill was brought in and built up the area and have a brick wall.
Link if you have access to the group

Another pile of Starshine Properties Ltd rentals in St Stephen are up at the tax sale next month.

156 King Street (3 units, acquired for $85,000)
64 Marks Street (4, $120,000)
9-11 Nesbitt Avenue (2, $190,000)
And four mobile homes: 14, 16, 17, and 18 Hillcrest Court (can't see prices in PAOL)

As is Outer Wood Island... would be nice to see someone with deep pockets donate it to the Nature Trust.
