Those literally look like extruded tower versions of the ubiquitous 5 story woodframe black and white and brown boxes being build everywhere. They just increased the autocad template height.
I was focused on the terrible Ice District proposal and forgot why I was here.
2775+2785 Palladium Dr & 350 Culdaff Rd [Hotel + Water Park] | 29m | 7f | Proposed
Indoor water park and attached hotel proposed near the Corel Centre, on the other side of a car dealership district from the arena. It would be a good way to continue supporting businesses like restaurants in Kanata after the Sens move Downtown, though I kind of hoped the arena could potentially become an indoor waterpark with a hotel around the perimeter.

A total of 23 outdoor bicycle spaces is proposed. The development includes 289 m2 of amenity space, including outdoor communal space and a 2nd floor terrace.
Have we changed what day April Fools lands on? ... this is a joke right? There is no way something that hideous akin to the likes of Waterloo and Laval could possibly be built next to the ICE district.

ICE District phase 2 does look terrible given it's prominent location.
Made so much more pathetic by the facts that (a) the City of Edmonton gave OEG over $200 million dollars for the arena project; and (b) the Oilers are somehow the highest revenue-generating organization in the entire NHL. And this is the "revitalization" that the City of Edmonton gets in return? Outrageous.
Yeah. That's some — for Edmonton. The district and city deserve way better than a low-tier 'tower in the park, ' Langley-esque high-rise. I hope the city rejects this proposal.

The City may not be able to reject it. If not, the people of Edmonton need to reject it (by not buying units). Edmonton needs to expect better.
If it was just ~1000 residential units in some towers finally breaking the 105 ave force field, that would be fine, I guess.
But this isn't any damn district at all. It looks like there's one CRU and then townhouse entries, right onto the sidewalk leading to a train station? Nobody's gonna like that. And nobody's gonna like the little grass corner, unless that's hiding that they're keeping the little office building? I'm with Cold; bring on the giant clock. Especially if it shoots lasers.
That ICE "District" proposal is significantly worse than most of the master-planned suburban GTA tower precincts. At least those play lip-service to having a public realm and design philosophy, even if it's unlikely to pan out in reality. To do this in an area with actual amenities and direct transit access is egregious.
If the demand isn't there for something good just let it sit fallow for another couple years.
