If Lynn doesn't like crowds and loud music, why the hell go to review a concert venue?
Typical Ottawa. Same as the homo-monument reviews from CBC about outrage for the unveiling being an invite-only event (like really, what event in the past 20 years featuring PM's and GG's and other politicians hasn't been invite-only?). Focus on the negative rather than the miracle it took to get the financing, project management, investors, and public on board.
Congrats on success here. Looking forward to seeing a few packed shows. I'm 6'1" so I should be fine, based on Lynn's assessment.
Apologies, I was just in the Netherlands and the Amsterdam monument for persecuted gays and lesbians is called the Homomonument. Purge monument is not what I'd like to call it either. I'm gay and I don't have a problem with Amsterdam's wording The term is non-inclusive if we're going to use the full 2SLGBTQI+ National Monument designation for all involved in the purge.

LOL, I have so many gay friends and I would never write down what they call themselves and each other on this board. Heck they even gave me T-Shirt with what they consider funny wording

Has anyone been to a too-crowded and too-noisy event at the venue yet? I'm excited to try it out.
Just got back from Robyn in Toronto where it was incredibly crowded and noisy but people were SO polite and it was an amazing show.

OTownandDown’s explanation of why he innocently used the word was enough to close this conversation but since you had to reopen it I feel I’m allowed to add my final two cents before closing the conversation once again. Gay people can call themselves whatever they want amongst themselves (and hopefully that is where those words stay), and it is great that you have so many gay friends who are comfortable using those words around you but this does not give you some magical card that allows you to decide what words other gay people should or shouldn’t find offensive. Instead of commenting on my question and telling people (I assume you meant me) to lighten up you could have looked up the negative impact of the word on gay people and ended up being more of an ally to your gay friends and to the broader gay community. Regards, LOL and all that stuff.

Hope to go in the Market sometime next week and get a picture of the back of History. I'm a little worried it will look really bad like some back alley at the end of all this.

With all due respect, what were you expecting here? The back is pretty much just a spot for bands to go in and out with their music equipment. i’d be surprised quite frankly if it wasn’t fenced off
Because the By-Ward Market is a ‘Bad Area’, there needs to be fencing to keep ne’er-do-wells away. No-one wants a visiting band to have equipment swiped or its truck vandalized/tagged.
The fence also declares that that section of the City’s Right of Way ‘belongs’ to History. I sure hope that the City is charging big money for the encroachment.
PS I would hope that the City also charges a nominal amount every time the queuing barricades go out along Rideau Street, cutting off a large portion of the sidewalk. Alas, I suspect that the City ignores that on the basis that otherwise, there would be an uncontrolled crowd.
It's a place, as mentioned, for equipment related to the show but it's also where the band's tour bus can park and musicians and staff can hang out without being bothered. I saw the Wallflowers very nice tour bus parked back there and I get why they don't want it just sitting out on George St.

I think that we want to be encouraging businesses that bring large numbers of people downtown, not nickel and diming them for things like that.
