Whatever style guide they're using to write articles specifies that Austin is one of the cities that requires use of the state's name, partly because there are other cities in the country with the same name.

There are about 30 cities* in the list of ones that don't need the state specified. Remember, the headquarters of Hormel, owner of the Spam brand of meat, among other things, is headquartered in Austin, Minnesota.

Today, Austin is large enough of a city that it is likely unnecessary in 99% of the articles written today; it's not like Hormel is building a 1,024 foot tall headquarters.

* Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Honolulu, Houston, Indianapolis, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, New Orleans, New York, Oklahoma City, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Salt Lake City, San Antonio, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington

I think it looks pretty good. It's impressive in person. I like the temperature versus the portion above the office levels.
