Well, 150 m is a more useful threshold as it's widely (though not universally) used to define "skyscrapers". According to https://www.skyscrapercenter.com/cities :

1 New York City 324
2 Chicago 137
3 Toronto 109
4 Miami 68
5 Panama City 68
6 Houston 40
7 Los Angeles 31
8 Mexico City 30
9 Boston 26
10 San Francisco 26

Either way Miami is ranked 4th, although IMO Panama City should be ranked above Miami as it has more 200m+ buildings than Miami.

That's my concern about it, but its a minor one. These towers will stand out well in Miami, even at that height.

Agreed, although NYC should count Jersey City etc.

Probably more like 350-400 when factoring in U/C buildings.

Toronto should count Mississauga etc. too.

Miami's suburbs of Sunny Isles Beach and Miami Beach would bump it up as well. Sunny Isles Beach alone would bump up Miami's 500ft+ building count by at least 17 buildings. The City of Miami proper is tiny.

CNN has an article about Miami hitting a record high yesterday with a nice camera angle of the skyline that we typically don't see....from the south (Coconut Grove area). Waldorf is on the left.

you can´t count cities together... then it just a manipulation...

1 - Hong Kong - 2967
2 - Shenzen - 1171
3 - Guangzhou - 857
4 - Zhuhai - 135
5 - Foshan - 131
6 - Macau - 105

this cities and other cities are all together ... with over 100 Million People... the biggest Agglomeration in the world right now... not Tokyo, not Jakarta...

so now i have a city with more then 10.000 Skyscrapers over 100 meters...

^his point is that there are multiple vantage points across the New York area where both the New York City Skyline and the Jersey City skyline appear as one. You can see them both together with the naked eye, on a boat in the harbor, from bridges, streets, buildings etc. Same with Toronto and Mississauga. That absolutely technically can count as one skyline. If he had included Boston as part of it for example, that would of course be wrong.

I don't know nearly as much about your example, but is there any vantage point where you can see all of those skylines combined as one with the naked eye? I doubt it.

Took the words right out of my mouth, thank you.

Jersey City is visually part of NYC skyline and maybe to a way lesser extent Mississauga part of Toronto.

Hong Kong and Shenzhen are close but way farther and mountains probably block most of the view.

you CAN´T count skylines or skyscrapers from different cities together...
what is the purpose of city skyscraper rankings then or this website ?

Example
- Miami - has 175 Skyscrapers
- Miami Beach - has 15 Skyscrapers
- Sunny Isles Beach - has 50 Skyscrapers

Question

Has Miami Beach or Sunny Isles Beach more Skyscrapers ?
Has Newark or Jersey City more Skyscrapers ?
Has Chicago or Miami more Skyscrapers ?

Your Answer by your Definition is - none... Miami Beach and Sunny Isles Beach have 0 Skyscrapers... because they all count to Miami...

Your Answer by your Definition is - none... Newark and Jersey City have 0 Skyscrapers... because they all count to New York City...

Your Answer by your Definition is - Miami has more Skyscrapers then Chicago... because you count Miami Beach, Sunny Isles Beach, Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach Skyscrapers to Miami...

What about Minneapolis and Saint Paul ? To wich city you count the skyscrapers ? Yeah you can´t...

Where is the skyline Limit ?
Miami Beach and Sunny Isles Beach are close to Miami, so they count together... but Hollywood and Fort Lauderdale are to far away... so they dont count where is the limit ? 1 mile, 5 miles

Right Answer is
- Sunny Isles Beach with about 50 Skyscrapers
- Miami Metropolitan Area has 300 Skyscrapers...

Right Answer is
- Jersey City with about 50 Skyscrapers...
- New York City Metropolitan Area has 1000 Skyscrapers...

Right Answer is
- Chicago has 350 Skyscrapers and Miami has 175 Skyscrapers
- Chicago Metropolitan Area has 360 Skyscrapers and Miami Metropolitan Area has 400

i am from Europe.. we define Buildings over 100 meters as Skyscrapers... not 150 meters

1 New York City 343
2 Chicago 137
3 Toronto 134
4 Miami 82
5 Panama City 71
6 Houston 40
7 Los Angeles 35
8 Mexico City 35
9 San Francisco 27
10 Boston 26

That's old data. This is the up-to-date skyscraper count as of now. Here's how I looked up the skyscraper count using the diagram search form: I set the structure type to High Rise, then filtered the status to Built and Construction. I also set the minimum height requirement to the skyscraper threshold of 492 ft (149.9 m). For the drawing selection, I made sure it was set to All Buildings instead of Drawn Only.

The skyline rankings discussion should be moved to City Discussion forums so we don't gunk up construction progress of Waldorf Astoria as it creates a lot of heated debate, just like where to count building heights....antennas, architectural spires, or floors.

I like this view... looks bulky. I would have been hard for me to imagine back in the 90s that it would become difficult to see Southeast Financial/Wachovia on the skyline from the Grove in the next 25-30 years.

It's honestly a given that Miami will surpass Chicago at some point by the number of skyscrapers (150m+). Miami is just building way too much and Chicago is building way too little. There are now around 20 buildings under construction in Miami above 150m+. Chicago has what, 3? And this trend since 2008 hasn't stopped, despite naysayers.

Now on aesthetics I think Chicago is still the better skyline even if Miami surpasses it in volume.

Chicago goes through insane booms though and its skyscrapers are quite a bit taller than Miami's.

Chicago has ca 360 Skyscrapers
Miami has ca 175 Skyscrapers

my prediction is that Miami will overtake Chicago by 2100...

but Miami growth must stay the same... like today.. Miami building its tallest Skyscrapers like Waldorf Astoria, Cipriani Residences, Okan Tower, Baccarat Residences... they are all tall buildings... Miami Metropolitan Area has more potential then Chicago... because of simple population growth...

in other hand Chicago´s growth is not so strong... but it has its boom years too... like 2010s, 2020s... so it will take long time Miami to overtake Chicago...

also we schould be all thankful to experience this exiting time... when Miami building its tallest skyscrapers... one after another...

i think Miami building a lot of Miamish skyscrapers that add value to the skyline... that make it look better... then on another hand... they building a lot of bad and cheap looking skyscrapers too... that diminish the skyline...

like Waldorf Astoria... i dont think boxy buildings belong to Miami... period...
they belong to Chicago and New York and not Miami and Los Angeles...
my opinion...

I said it years ago - this boxy tower does not look good in Miami's skyline. I have warmed to it a bit...but that off center top cube really looks out of place and messes up the design in my opinion.
