This would be an enormous land for Austin!

Oh, there are some large backlots and studios being developed in/near Bastrop. There will be a lot of production out of those when they come online.

The price that Silicon Valley-based SB Energy shelled out to buy West Austin’s Highpoint 2222 campus earlier this year has been revealed — and so have some details of what will eventually occupy the long-empty space that has been marketed as the largest contiguous block of business space in the region. Room for thousands of people and servers abound at this site not far from Lake Travis.

--SB Energy is turning the former 3M campus in Northwest Austin into a massive tech research and development (R&D) and data center hub, backed by a massive investment from its parent conglomerate, SoftBank. Operating through an entity called SE Cosmos LLC, the Silicon Valley-based clean energy company acquired the 107-acre property—recently rebranded as Highpoint 2222—at 6801 River Place Blvd.

Key Project Details

The Investment: SoftBank is prepared to invest up to $1 billion into the site, including at least $610 million dedicated to facility improvements and massive electrical infrastructure upgrades.

The Scale: The campus spans 1.1 million square feet of office and laboratory space that had been largely vacant since 3M departed in 2019.

The Stargate Connection: The acquisition is heavily tied to Stargate, a massive $500 billion artificial intelligence data center initiative. The campus's existing on-site utility plant and upgraded substation capabilities make it an ideal footprint for high-capacity digital infrastructure.

Key Tenants: Reports indicate that British semiconductor giant Arm (which is also majority-owned by SoftBank) will be among the primary operators utilizing the high-tech R&D facility.

While SB Energy originally presented the project to the local community primarily as an R&D and laboratory center, recent filings confirm that it will serve as a foundational piece for cutting-edge AI and advanced computing infrastructure.
