I noticed a few small things happening downtown today:

- Skuare has finally been born, but looks like a different concept than before, doesn't look like they are setup to show outdoor movies or have a stage for entertainment. It looked more like outdoor games and an attempt to attract families there, which not sure that makes sense but whatever. It is at least nicer than a dirt lot as there is some colour and greenery now. Looks like an announcement on it will happen on Saturday.

- The Wingate by Wyndham hotel on Broad and Sask Drive is getting a paint job. It is much more colourful now, some kind of red and blue and white I think. It never was a nice looking hotel and has a surburb stucco vibe to it but I will say the colour is better than the terrible beige tones it used to have. and at least creates some diversity to the similar beige themed building beside it that holds Tim Hortons.

- Demo work continues on the lot kiddy corner from Sasktel head office. So ugly building being built there or not, looks like they are proceeding forward at least for the first part of it.

- The roadwork along 11th in front of the SGI head office and the next block is getting very advanced and looks ready for lines to be painted on the road and hopefully reopening soon.

Sorry for no photos, I forgot my phone. Maybe Geccho can get some next time near downtown.

It is absolutely setup to show movies.

I am hosting an event there on labour day weekend.

Everything there is meant to be movable/multi-use.

They have some cool ideas/concepts for winter use.

I largely agree with this. The arguments in favour appear to be that the city is much larger than when it was built and that other cities have newer libraries. But the current building is very nice and is in a great location. I do not believe it is over capacity.

There have been statements that the building needs all kinds of work, but this is classis justification for a new building. We saw this with Taylor Field and the Brandt Centre. The studies always suggest replacing or upgrading every system in the building. Come on. Would you do that in your house if you were deep in debt? Note that suddenly now that it is privately owned, the Brandt Centre is perfectly adequate with a few $ million it upgrades.

What is the floor material at Skuare. Is that reclaimed asphalt?

I imagine the city wants to activate Square for I Love Regina Day tomorrow, which is focused in Victoria Park. I Love Regina Run goes down Cornwall next to the Hotel Sask toward Wascana and Albert. Farmer's Market will be there for the morning. There will be traffic in the DT.

Just nibbling away at the demo project so I didn't stick around long. Not hauling away concrete as they go, just letting it fill the basement. I'll check back the next day they are working and get some photos of today's progress on the weekend. Starting an outlet into the lake for the drainage project that went up to College Ave. Northbound Albert has been down to 1 lane at 11th causing all sort of traffic problems. I got a video of the 11th work and the Namerind site. I'll have to find a different place to takeoff as I attracted the attention of a security guard from behind the old superstore. Either the west side of the street by the tracks or the yards should work. I almost thought the McDonalds had a second floor, but it just has a really tall wall around the roof.

I was playing with the manual exposure settings and it seems there are situations where auto mode doesn't pick a good shutter speed making the image washed out. I should be able to spot when that happens now.

They've been doing some drilling all week at the NW lift station location, probably monitoring wells. Also baled the field they cut early in the week. Finishing up the facade work on the new building on Pinkie. They poured the deck last night at the bypass bridge repair. Looks like 2 new multi-unit projects planned for Rosewood, their parking lots are taking priority over road work for the area. Looks like the new part of Rosewood is getting power from above ground lines. Starting to build the residential roads in Coopertown.

Starting to work on the 6th floor mechanical penthouse at the LTC. Foundation walls started for first building at the Grasslands project. Since Bell is airing youtube ads with video from the data centre I don't see any point hiding that album anymore. Starting to put up siding on the first building. The buildings are pretty tall, the drone doesn't capture it up high so I took a few photos closer to the ground. Added new section to the front of the Costco, starting the siding on the south part of the building and continuing to expand the parking lot area. Getting a lot of the light pole bases poured.

The drone was tilted sideways a bit during the Costco downward looking shot which triggered my OCD as there was a noticeable tilt when flipping through images in the overheads album. I thought about retaking the shot this morning, but the wind had already picked up. Then I remembered the Darktable photo processing software has a perspective correction tool. All I had to do is draw a box on the image using the building frame as a reference and it straightened the picture out. I wish Darktable had an image stacking option, I'd like to get all the overheads the exact same size and alignment so I could make an animation out of the progress.

Kind of makes sense. The City will not really have any infrastructure left to manage those facilities.

It was too windy yesterday evening, but I got out early this morning to capture yesterday's costco progress. No new demolition yesterday, it seems they were just pulling out rebar. Going to be windy again today so I'll wait until tomorrow to try getting more video.

A bunch of little changes at the Costco. More siding on the south side, started doing some over the loading docks. Started putting curbs around the parking lot light pole bases. Started filling a gap in the outer curb by the SW corner of the building. Adding the top parapet framing in the front of the building. More progress on the demolition, could have most of the south side of the building down tomorrow. Starting the foundation wall forms for the new cattle barn tent. I think the Costco footers were poured the same way, void form boxes and lumber holding up OSB bottom forms to create a beam that rests on the piles.

Took one photo downtown after taking a long video around sunset. If I was paying more attention I would have changed the angle to get the entire Namerind site in the shot, but its in the video.

A few observations:

They are ripping out the foundation of the old WCB building at the Namarind site on Lorne.

When I see all the completely vacant parking structures and surface lots, it makes me laugh about the never-ending comments that we could never have a downtown arena because there is no parking.

City Parks says Victoria Park is in a category of its own above all others when it comes to park maintenance. It looks like crap.

A few demo videos today and a loop most of the way around the data centre site. The frame is fully up for the first data centre building with some gaps in the roofing trusses.

Some photos to process later after I get back from checking out the Costco this evening. My computer isn't fast enough to encode video smoothy run the photo processor at the same time. When I went past the Costco this afternoon they had started paving the SW corner of the parking lot. Tent frame is going up for the tent extension at REAL.

I rarely go into the advanced forum editor so I never noticed there is a youtube embed option. I posted link to the demolition timelapse before it finished uploading so it won't work right away.

Big batch of photos between this afternoon / evening. Extending the new College Ave storm water trunk to the lake. Aquatic centre excavation moving towards the field house. In addition to paving at Costco they ran the reclaimer on a patch that links the parking lot work to the east entrance. Installing the bridge wall rebar at the bypass bridge.
