expansion of Westminster Pier Park is complete. There will be an official public opening event on Wednesday August 5th at 3:00 pm, but it is open to go to now.

The City of New Westminster has purchased three properties in the Lower Twelfth Street area. The City took possession of the properties on Tuesday, September 15.

The property addresses are:

235 Thirteenth Street
240 Twelfth Street
221 Twelfth Street

The three properties are all car lots at the bottom end of 12th Street, part of the Lower Twelfth Street Study Area.

Nice, that makes for 4.75 acres including the adjacent gas works site. Seems safe to assume a downtown fire hall will end up here.

Safe to assume it'll be that considering they mentioned:

Decisions about the future of these properties will be based on community needs and City priorities, including but not limited to:

Community growth
Available funding
People, Parks and Play (the City of New Westminster's 10-year Parks and Recreation Plan)
The City of New Westminster’s Fire and Rescue Services 2023 – 2026 Strategic Plan

Otherwise it looks like it'll be parkland, and perhaps some social housing or maybe if we get lucky a second aquatic centre. And in a long shot, maybe the "grade separated East-West (i.e. Tunnel) Goods Movement Corridor" from the 2022 Master Transportation plan, these are in the right location for that after all.
