Interest is extremely high as a new Indigenous affordable housing complex in Sarnia is soon set to welcome tenants.

The $18-million, 36 thousand square foot facility is located at 940 Confederation Street, next to the Good Shepherd's Lodge.

It's a five-storey building with 42 units, located on land that was donated by the County of Lambton, and will also offer programming through the Sarnia-Lambton Native Friendship Centre.

Good news for the region with Sarnia Bluewater Health getting a 2nd MRI machine and funding to operate it. This takes pressure off other MRI's in the region and increases the number of scans available for everyone.

A new apartment building on Afton Drive is just about move in ready.

The six-storey building has 90 one and two-bedroom rental suites that include amenities such as in-unit laundry, a workout space, a pickleball court, and a guest suite.

Sarnia has become remarkably good at hitting housing targets. Last year, 654 new homes broke ground, more than six times the provincial target, earning the city another $400,000 from Ontario's Building Faster Fund. By the measure governments have chosen, this is an extraordinary success.

Sarnia can hit housing targets because it's housing targets are insanely low. 100 units is not very much - that's a couple of new basement apartments and a few townhouses and detached homes. Especially for a metro area sitting around 100,000.

The PCs in many cases set housing targets very low in many PC areas so that it was very easy for those municipalities to get the cash.
