Genest Detention Centre for Youth - Anago

Just announced this week by Anago that the Genest Youth detention center on Oxford St east of Fanshawe College has been vacant for over a year. What should happen with this facility? It has a Gym, Kitchen/Dining room and residential rooms plus administrative offices. Can an alternative use be found? Homeless shelter? MH treatment?

Logistically, I know using it as a satellite police station is a little on the no way side given its size, but it would be possible to split the building into a multi purpose / organization type. Police station, community outreach, even one of those types of buildings that Sylvan Street is going to have. Lots of opportunities

Sadly this former YOA detention centre building has stayed vacant for years. Graffiti is now visible on the Oxford St facing side. Surprised that some community agency hasn't stepped up and partnered with the Province to reopen this for mental health, addictions, emergency shelter space. Something better then years of being empty.
