Think it could get through with the governors support but the mayor may have already burned that bridge…

The mayor didn't burn any bridge, and the governor needs to get over himself. I'm so sick of the fallout of this foolishness and he is acting in bad faith. Okay, rant over.

I’m not into politics and certainly don’t want to make this a political board but pretty sure she burned a bridge regardless of which side of idiots anyone chooses to give their allegiance to. Hoping that cooler heads prevail and the Omni gets done but looks to be in jeopardy as of now unfortunately.

I would get a New Orleans business group (not involving the mayor) to go to Landry and stroke his ego about this being the biggest high rise Development in decades etc and so he could take credit… the lemmings at the capital will vote however he tells them to.

Agreed. I would like for Michael Hecht and other business entities to do just that. This whole thing is just so frustrating.

Agree, will be a shame if the city/state can't find a way to make it happen.

Bottom line, if the city/state want to move forward and compete economically with likes of Houston, Atlanta Dallas etc. both sides will have to swallow their pride and find a way to work together. That’s all I’ll say on that.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has granted a federal permit authorizing construction of the Louisiana International Terminal, clearing a major regulatory hurdle for Port NOLA’s planned container terminal on the Lower Mississippi River.

The approval allows the Port of New Orleans and its private-sector partners to move the project into its next phase after years of engineering and environmental review. The terminal is planned as a new deepwater container facility capable of handling some of the world’s largest cargo ships.

Port NOLA is developing the terminal through a public-private partnership with Terminal Investment Limited, the terminal operating arm of Mediterranean Shipping Co., and Ports America.

The terminal is planned downriver from New Orleans, allowing large container vessels to reach the facility without passing beneath the Crescent City Connection. The bridge’s clearance limits the size of ships that can reach Port NOLA’s existing container facilities.

Modern container ships can carry more than 16,000 20-foot-equivalent units, or TEUs, creating pressure on U.S. ports to expand infrastructure capable of accommodating larger vessels.

Port officials have positioned the Louisiana International Terminal as a way for Louisiana to capture more Gulf Coast container traffic while expanding access between international markets and the Mississippi River’s extensive inland transportation network.

“This is a defining moment not just for Louisiana, but for the entire country,” Gov. Jeff Landry said. “The Louisiana International Terminal will stimulate economic growth and cement Louisiana’s role as the nation’s gateway to global trade. This investment will expand opportunities for American businesses and workers, lift up opportunities for Louisiana families, and ensure Louisiana remains a driving force in the nation’s future.”

SpaceX to build $100 billion rocket launch facility on Louisiana’s coast.

While having no immediate impact on New Orleans, this project could have ripple effects for the region if it actually matures into the scope projected by SpaceX. Would be great if the city could lure development and companies to Michoud as a result. The connection would seem to make sense, Michoud offers direct and relatively easy access via the Intercoastal on barges to the site, protection inside the levees, and buildable industrial land. While Musk promises the world's largest launch site, I am keeping my expectations reserved. I also wonder if Landry would actively steer companies away from the city.

^ Louisiana (or Texas in that matter) would make sense to rival the Florida launch site, but you know, Musk seems to be a bit of a strange unpredictable individual, so... You never know until it's actually done.
It would be fantastic if he carried out the project, though.

Well that's pretty remote. The nearest Walmart is 40 miles away in Abbeville. I expect a lot of people to live in Abbeville, it's a beautiful town but what a commute! SpaceX will probably try to build their own town for everyone to live in, like they did at Boca Chica.

The site is pretty watery, they'll have to build a lot of levees to keep the Gulf out.

^ I can't tell about Musk's real intent.
What I know is the French built a space center and famous launch site that serves entire Europe pretty much under the equator in the middle of nowhere in Fr Guiana as of 1964. It was obviously backed and funded by the French government, but it was the 1960s, another day and age. Private businesses have grown much more powerful and influential in the space industry since then.
Musk is much of a boaster, we all know it. But if his capital weight and ambition are actually that significant, then it is surely feasible, just like anything.
It only depends on what he can actually afford and his political leaning or acquaintances.
I wouldn't bet a lot on him, because I don't entirely trust him, but it has to be feasible anyway.
Louisiana is way down south. It is a good spot for a launch facility. Of course Musk knows and probably counts on that.
