The good news is that Foster's website does not feature this as one of its projects: https://www.fosterandpartners.com/projects
Thus, here is hoping that Foster in his advanced age realizes that this project may be his swan song and produces/reimagines a design more befitting of his legendary legacy....

The design was finalized with the input from its new owner, American Express. That's the only reason it's getting built. It's often forgotten that these buildings exists for a reason, and that's do to the occupants. They're in love with it. There are a ton of skyscrapers in New York, and a huge number of supertalls that continues to grow. Not all of them are going to be like by evetrybody. But they're being built for a purpose. What works, works.

I think that this tower is going to be magnificent.

Consider the scope of very tall towers that will be rising simultaneously:

1. 350 Park;
2. 2 WTC;
3. 655 Madison;
4. ABC;
5. 570 Fifth;
6. The Wellington;
7. 41 W 57th;
8. 346 Madison;
9. 343 Madison;
10. 70 Hudson Yards; and
11. hopefully more.

So basically you want American Express to pay the design team (Architect, Engineers, Interior Designers, etc.) million$ of dollars more in design revision fees, Permit/City fees, and construction inflation costs for delaying construction for potentially several years?

What do you make of Foster not featuring it in his website?

Yes, they regularly turn profit into the tens of billions. A simple reimagining of the mechanicals up top is not out of line and should not cost that much nor delay the construction.

Foster and Partners sometimes just doesn't update projects on their website until they're well underway. 350 Park also doesn't currently have a project page, and 270 Park didn't get one until it was several stories above ground. The firm might have some agreement with the client about releasing information, it's hard to say.

I thought I'd make this comparison because it really drives home that this was tailored down to exactly AmEx's needs -- both these buildings have approximately the same total floor space:

^ Thanks. AmEX is excited for their new headquarters, which will be built before we know it.

Good to see some crane action (from the webcam)

Been so long since we saw cranes on this site, it just ups the excitement....(page 347, and we're finally going skyward)

And once again, here we go. I'll be watching this thing go up here on line, just like I did the rest. I do like how the setbacks are arranged while it gets higher. Reminds me a little bit of the Willis building in Chicago, needless to say a smaller scale, however I am a little skeptical of, if the trees and gardens are going to work, in those setbacks.

IMO it resembles Vista (St. Regis) and NEMA more:

There’s something very Robocop about this design that I really appreciate. It’s somehow like 80’s techno-futuristic.

Render from Yimby New York, posted by Arik and then later refined by user3755 for accuracy. Not sure about original authorship. There are some other gems in that thread as well.

Edit: I just realized another variation of this rendering was previously posted in this thread as well, I should have noticed that.

I just realized that rendering was already posted previously; only difference is that the building was rescaled.
