Within the Saint John region, and New Brunswick as a whole, how many nuclear firms currently exist? Moltex and ARC got a lot of press for their SMR plays, but surely there’s many other nuclear related companies already operating in NB, as well as new firms looking to invest in operations in conjunction with Point Lepreau.

I’d have to look at the websites again for Moltex and ARC, but I’m pretty sure neither company is represented in this group. Assuming most of these people are representing CANDU, AtkinsRéalis, and the Canadian Nuclear Association, but maybe one or two represent local firms?

There could have been others not in the photo too; I wouldn't read too much into it.

From my perspective, ARC/Moltex are being pushed aside in favour of another CANDU.

I am curious what this base of operations will entail? A token workforce for now or until something official is announced?

I wouldn’t read too much into the photo either, at least one of the other people I recognize is just a DM from the Department of Energy, so it’s mostly a provincial government photo.

NB is out of energy, another reactor is absolutely coming at Lepreau, and it's sooner than later.

The site was specced out to accommodate it from day one; I say it's about damn time. Anything that reduces reliance on energy sources with airborne emissions is a win in my book.

This is positive news because there was always the possibility the office was being set up for current maintenance or engineering of current reactor. CANDU is owned by Montréal based AtkinsRéalis - their investment chart shows a potential reactor build in New Brunswick in 2029. That would require 2000-3000 workers for 6 years so developers will only have a few years to ramp up and build their projects for the expected influx of workers, both direct and indirect job workers.

More positive news to report on a second reactor for Point Lepreau.

I wonder if there are still any plans for an SMR in addition to a second CANDU.
