Robert E. Howlett to Commonwealth reopened this morning. Traffic seemed to be moving smoothly, so far.

The same Driver Training company put a handy video of the newly opened roundabouts on their facebook page. For those who are a bit antsy about it all it's worth a look.

I tried it yesterday, there needs to be some updated permanent direction signs at the commonwealth/old placentia lights for sure. Too many people going straight on to brookfield.

Communication on construction for this project has not been this governments strong suit. I agree that there needs to be signage indicating that section of road is no longer a through-way. That said there's this VOCM story about the cut off section of Brookfiield Rd. being renamed. I had not heard of this before. When you consider how disjointed Empire Ave. is - why bother?

I think the residents of Brookfield place should also have a say if they should become a street of Mount Pearl, or stay in St. John's. That's another area a St. John's plow or any city worker will have to detour through Mount Pearl just to service that area. (The other area being Castle Bridge Drive area). Or the city can see if Mount Pearl wants to buy those areas, and the capital city can set that money aside for something like finishing Southlands Blvd 🤷🏻♂️

Is there any agreement w/ MP to clear these roads? Seems like they would already deal with this in the castle bridge dr area, so I don't think it would be a big hassle since they can just stop there on the way. Though I could see something like that happening down the line

Also, there's now a massive left turn lane onto brookfield place from commonwealth now which isn't needed at all, and the one other lane is left over to go straight. Once the gushue opens, this could get pretty backed up in rush hour. I think this intersection badly needs an update.

Maybe that 'left turn signal' could be relocated to the intersection of Columbus Drive at Canada Dr or Captain Whelan at Hamlyn; areas where they are sorely needed~!

TGH Paving

While making my way through the new Brookfield Road roundabout and heading east this afternoon I noticed that paving has begun on the TGH north bound lane with a layer of blacktop from the roundabouts to the top of the rise over the Experimental Farm Entrance.

Was biking in the area so took a couple of photos. With the roundabouts out the way it appears to be full steam ahead with paving.

Wonder how long it will take the spray vandals to do that area of concrete median?

They have already defaced the new median at the southern terminus!

Is there going to be a noise barrier between the TGH and Brookfield? Seems like it could get a bit annoying for people living there
