Looks like it was on a similar scale to the Cathedral Basilica in Hamilton? (Though, not looming over a large area on top of a hill.)

Yes it does look similar in scale, thanks for pointing that out. Cathedral Basilica is beautiful.

I think it’s more beautiful as a ruin. This was one of my favourite place to go as a kid, it felt like the ruins of a castle or something.

I’m sure the inside of it was tremendous like most basilicas are. The existing Basilica that replaced it, however, has to be one of the most boring and austere basilicas in North America. It’s a real shame they didn’t build a proper cathedral behind the ruins.

Having seen the ruin left behind of Saint Boniface in person there's something magical about seeing this glorious man made facade with the blue sky and clouds peeking through.

The grounds have a very calming atmosphere. If I lived in Winnipeg it would be a picnic spot.
