Yeah, it sucks, but we are making up for a century of fire suppression plus climate change. So two powder kegs happening at once.
I think at this rate we have about another decade to go before the forests find their equilibrium again (at which point we can’t go back to the practices of old, we need to let fires burn, but instead of massive crown fires they will likely be natural creeping surface fires again).
Please note this is for the Montane forests of BC, as for the boreal forests, those have a much bigger transition ahead of them.
Kamloops has been the worst for the smoke, essentially having constant smoke since mid July, the smoke didn’t settle into the Okanagan until about a week ago.
For the coast, Vancouver had about two smokey days with a little haze on a couple others, Abbotsford about three or four, the Island though has only had one hazy afternoon (my parents are in Nanaimo).
