How much are the railways chipping in to this overpass? It partly benefits them too.
I don't know the split between the parties, but the $200m project is jointly funded by the Fraser River Port Authority, the federal government, and Canadian National.
The project will be funded by the federal government, VFPA, and CN in roughly equal proportions. Available funding is capped at $145.1 million, which is consistent with
current project cost estimates. If, during design, estimated project costs rise above
available funding, additional funding will be obtained or the project will stop
Port Moody approves $2.8M Barnet overpass widening to ease congestion
Port Moody has endorsed a plan to widen the eastbound Barnet Highway rail overpass and immediately open a new traffic lane in an effort to tackle one of the city’s most persistent congestion bottlenecks.
On June 16, council unanimously endorsed a plan, despite staff recommending a phased approach that would have prioritized active transportation first.
Mayor Meghan Lahti argued that while staff’s preferred option aligned with the city’s transportation planning principles, it failed to address the immediate reality facing commuters.
“This is something that has been identified by our taxpayers as a number one issue for them,” she said. “We’re in a situation now where we have the type of congestion that is untenable.
“I get that this flies in the face of staff’s recommendation, but I just could not look the taxpayers in the face and say that that was something that I agreed with.”
Staff have been directed to proceed with the project that would widen the bridge, add a fourth eastbound lane and expand the existing sidewalk from roughly 1.2 metres to about two metres. The project would be completed alongside a planned seismic retrofit and deck rehabilitation work on the structure.
The decision rejected staff’s preferred option, which would have widened the bridge but initially used the new space as a protected multi-use pathway until future growth in Moody Centre warranted converting it into a traffic lane.
Staff warned that immediately opening a new vehicle lane could attract additional regional traffic through “latent demand” and eventually reduce the congestion-relief benefits.
Lahti questioned whether a cycling connection on the south side of Barnet Highway would materialize any time soon, noting her understanding that Coquitlam’s plans for the area focus on future residential development on the north side of the highway and business and industrial uses on the south side.
The Ministry of Transportation and Transit is advising drivers and commuters to expect overnight delays on Highway 99 in Delta on Monday, Aug. 10, and Tuesday, Aug. 11.

The traffic pattern changes are to help facilitate crews installing new bridge girders for the 78th Street overpass, part of a new interchange being constructed to support the 148-acre Parkwood Industrial Estates business park in Delta.

The timing of the Highway 99 closures on Aug. 10 and 11 is as follows:
Southbound lane closures start at 7 p.m.
Full southbound closure at 8 p.m.
Northbound lane closures start at 8 p.m.
Full northbound closure at 9 p.m.
Closures will be in effect between the Highway 91 and Highway 17 interchanges, with Highway 99 reopening in both directions by 5 a.m. each day.
Kingsway's new Bus Lane is now active. I only noticed yesterday that the curb lane is now Bike & Bus only, they painted a diamond on it and put signage up but no one seems to realize they aren't supposed to drive in it as it's still being used by cars. People in general seem to ignore the HOV rules anyway.

When they make changes they really need to do enforcement blitzes at the same time. A little bit of pain teaches a lot.

Why bother, some routes like Granville are just plain stupid. They remove 1/3 of the vehicle capacity between YVR and downtown for a bus that isn’t that frequent or particularly full.

Why bother charging people for shoplifting, it's barely any money for a store, right?
