Two highrises proposed for an industrial property near the Corso Italia O-Train station could bring more than 500 new homes to the area, but some current tenants are worried about what could end up being lost.
The City of Ottawa has received applications to build two towers, one 33 storeys and the other 31 storeys, on the property at the corner of Breezehill Avenue and Laurel Street in Hintonburg.
The proposal includes 543 residential units, ground-floor commercial spaces and a city park.
The development hasn't been approved and is currently in the public comment phase of the application.
But for businesses already operating in the plaza, the development application sign posted on the property has made the plans feel much more immediate.
“I think the proposal itself looks great,” said Paul Flindall, who runs Capital Self Storage out of the existing building.
“But I think you do lose something when you lose some of these local businesses that are here.”
