I get the point but it’s a new restaurant. It’s not an established restaurant with dine in options converting to drive thru only. No routines are being thrown off here.

Mcdicks is clearly trying to capitalize on the 40k people driving north from Waverley west every morning.

They deliver if you’re really desperate for their food and don’t have a car. Will be curious to see if they have a takeout window for walk-ups.

There is no take-out window for walk-ups—it is exclusively drive-thru only, with support for mobile order & pay and third-party delivery. The Texas On the Go prototype includes an indoor delivery pick-up room for third-party couriers, while the California prototype has no lobby and instead uses lockers for third-party delivery pickups.

Kenaston will have 3 mobile order (parking) stalls and it appears to follow the Texas model with an indoor pickup lobby for third party delivery orders.

This isn't a taxpayer supported entity. It may not be for everyone.

It is a private business that if you don't like the way they run it you don't have to go. Seems crazy to me to be complaining about this. If it is so unpopular it will fail like businesses do.

And...it's a McDonalds. Like Drew said, there are lots of other regular McDonalds around if you really need to have it.

I remember this as well. It replaced an old A&W Drive In.

I suppose my gripe with this is that it ends with businesses that are only for people passing through a neighbourhood and closed to those who actually live in the neighbourhood (or accessible only by making a walkable destination a drive).

I'd love a rule where any restaurant operating a drive-thru has to operate a walk-up window.

Yeah, why have bylaws about drive-thrus or signage, or why have zoning at all? /s

It's not at all unusual to have public input and regulations about how land is used and how businesses can operate that is in the best interests of the larger community.

Yes, you are right.

This project fits within the current bylaws, so where is the issue? It was approved by council.

If the people and the community don't like it they can pressure to have the bylaws changed.

It's just a restaurant. This isn't a human rights violation, is it?

No human rights violations, some folks are jaded that this development doesn't fit their ideal of what would go there. That said, I also wish it was something other than any fast food chain, but really this new Mcdonald's that wasn't there before is not going to ruin my day, nor did it replace anything near and dear to my heart.

On that note, I was also wondering what was going in there, and now I know, thanks internet sleuths.

McDonald's already treats anyone not in the drive though as a second class citizen anyways, so this is the logical conclusion.

Their primary operating metric seems to be drive through performance, based on the large leader board screen they have and the fact that you stand there and watch them serve 3 cars in the drive through before you get your order in the restaurant.

Tim Horton's is the absolute worst for this. It is basically pointless to enter their store if you actually want to get something there.

Those metrics aren't even correct anyways. They print out your order on the stub. Then just close the order. If your order number is not on the screen at McDicks' they've already cheated the system and closed it.

You have to do like I do and use the Tim's app to order / pay for counter pickup. I get it just as fast if not faster as the drive thru but don't have to wait in line to order at the till or in the drive thru lane.

I hit send on the app as I get out of my car and its usually ready when I get to the pickup area.

Was just going to say this. Mobile order trumps all of this. You'll always get it faster than drive through or dine-in.

More... The new 48,000-square-foot store will be located on the lower level of the mall at 1485 Portage Avenue and is expected to open in Spring 2028.

So if I'm looking at this correctly, are they taking over some of the space EQ3 currently occupies? Not the Forever21 section thats closing??

Must have gotten a heck of a deal for that basement space. Has it ever been open to the public as retail space?
