I've said before that I notice a negative bias in reporting in NS/Halifax relative to other places. The "party's over!" announcement in NS was much louder, but the growth for the last 2 years has been relatively robust compared to Toronto or Vancouver. Metro Toronto actually lost population going into 2025.

I don’t know how anyone would feel that population growth somehow ended here. There has been no sign of this as far as I’ve seen. Viscerally it still feels like the people have overwhelmed the services and infrastructure here as well, data aside.

It is interesting to see the differences between "Commons" in Halifax vs. Dartmouth. The Halifax Common is mostly open space with just a scattering of trees as accents, while in Dartmouth it resembles more of a forest and really doesn't seem like what I would consider a "Common". Isn’t the Dartmouth Common mostly made up of Dillman Park, the ball fields and school properties? There are a couple of wooded lots but I don’t think I’d say it’s overwhelmingly forested?

I haven't been back in a while. I noticed this in "legacy" news articles, on Reddit (which would give you the impression everybody in NS is barely getting by), or occasionally from speaking to somewhat older folks around the Halifax area. So maybe it's a very artificial bubble.

Everybody has their own experiences and a right to have their own opinions, but all I’ll say is that they must travel in different circles than me. All over the city, not just downtown, is as busy as it’s ever been IMHO.

Yes. Agree. And everywhere is bigger than it used to be. I've speculated that growth throughout the Maritimes results in a busier Halifax.

There is no doubt some people are struggling more than we have seen in the past. And Nova Scotia is objectively poor relative to most other provinces and states, that is also true. But it's funny how every development announcement is greeted with howls of "unaffordable" etc meanwhile the buildings are full or nearly so and in many cases with a waitlist. Obviously SOME people are able/willing to pay premium prices, just look at the Cunard - rarely if ever do units become available. The Killam's Governor project (with some units going for $15K/month) seldom has units available. K-shaped economy, I suppose... but each group is wrong to assume everyone is identical to them.

Another one of my favourites (not that anyone cares). It preserves the nice old post office building while giving DT Dartmouth a boost. As is obvious, I have a personal connection to this area and that building in particular (not so obvious, and again not that anyone cares… lol), so I am rooting for this one in particular.

There is minimal work going on there. Perhaps there are still reworking the massing request

Some places like the Gate are going very slow, but others like the Canal are moving right along.

I have not seen anything big there in a while, just small bobcat type movers. I’ll have to take a wander by.
