You live in an urban bubble. Studies have shown that the majority want low rise living where you can have a degree of privacy. Density also comes with increased crime.
We already charge enormous development charges. Some of that money is being misused.
You have not been paying attention to floods over the years. Housing has been built in locations which had been used to absorb excess water. When built on, the neighbouring housing was flooded. We built an office building at Billings Bridge which has flooded repeatedly, is now vacant, and will likely be demolished.
I witnessed a fire that resulted in the whole building having to be demolished. This was in my area in the suburbs. Another apartment building was demolished in Overbrook after an arsonist set it on fire.
