He has done wonders for our state. Can't imagine the shape we'd be in without him.

The republican voters of Illinois renominated Darren Bailey to run for governor again, LOL!

What's that definition of insanity again?

^ yeah, maybe.

Whatever the case, JB certainly had a good night last evening.

His girl Julia gets the senator nomination over Raja,

AND he gets to run against his favorite goofball punching bag in the general.

Works for me. Another term for JB! May his bloodthirsty reign last 100 years!

Happy thought on a lazy Saturday morning:

Only 12 more months to go for one of the city's worst mayoral administrations ever.

By this time next year, we will have new (and hopefully competent) leadership running our town.

Anecdotal.

And its Ravenswood, so.....

But this morning waiting for my metra train on the ravenswood platform, a dude was trying to collect signatures for Brandon Johnson's campaign. I watched him get rejected over and over again, and when he finally got to me, I glanced at his signature sheet and saw he hadn't collected a single one, LOL!!

Worst. Mayor. Ever.

Good! I can only hope that after all this the voters of the city wise up to electing anyone who is so completely controlled by an organisation with an overpowering self serving agenda that completely ignores the wellbeing of the city and its residents. The CTU needs to be knocked down a peg or two. Or six.

But enough about the FOP...

"Being controlled" by the FOP was one of my biggest hangups about Vallas. But then Johnson turned around and cut a sweetheart deal with the cops too. Dude claims to be a progressive, but folds like a cheap suit when things get tough. It definitely seems like he has lost the trust of most of Chicago's progressives.

Well - Now we have a major player running for mayor:

https://www.chicagobusiness.com/politics-policy/ccb-alexi-giannoulias-mayoral-campaign-20260802/

I can see Alexi appealing to large swaths of the city completely fed up with BJ's nonsense..... I haven't dug much into Alexi's positions as he's Secretary of State - But he definitely seems like a force to be reckoned with.

Now, whether or not we get the same DSA fever that appears to be boiling up..... remains to be seen. I sure hope not.....

No disagreements here, man. I think all the major unions have too much power with polticians here, and force the city to cut them overly generous deals that greatly harm the city's finances and rake the taxpayers over the coals. The city suffers long term as a result, from reduced population growth and reduced economic investment. Continuing this practice is simply not sustainable.

I wonder what his play is here. He has a sweet gig as the SOS, he could stay there for life as long as he keeps up the good work that he has been doing, or even jump to the governor's mansion whenever Pritzker decides he has had enough or decides to make a move for the presidency.

Mayor of Chicago is a dead end and potentially career ending position. Alexi himself has said so in an interview with CBS. I wonder if JB cajoled him into running, with promises of better things to come if he ever takes the White House?

I am still undecided, but currently lean towards Alexi simply due to how competant he has been at his position and in modernizing the SOS office.

I guess Alexi and Susan would be at the top of the list for me right now.

I *assume* BJ is running and that he (ineffectively) uses up all the oxygen for anyone else who might try to operate in that lane. Him being in the race is sort like giving the electorate a vaccination against the "teaching algebra is racist and jerking off on the L is fine, actually" crowd.

If he drops out, I hope he puts what little inertia he has into a doomed candidate that is closely tied to his administration. There's not a very deep bench sitting inside 121 N Lasalle right now.

Pritzker's office has enough juice right now to probably torpedo any candidate from the "use eminent domain to turn Whole Foods into a homeless shelter" party. Probably could have done that four years ago if anyone thought BJ had a chance to emerge from that unfortunate scrum.

The most recent poll I saw put BJ at 23% apporoval.

He has zero path to victory.

But he could conceivably make the run-off by coalescing the far-left vote, while people like Alexi, Mendoza, Quigley, etc. divide the rest of the electorate evenly.

And if he somehow pulls a miracle outta his ass and squeaks into the run-off, BJ still loses to pretty much anyone else. His active dislikes are above 50%.
