Looks like about 40 slots by my count. Not sure if that's "alot" or not.

It looks like alot of parking because the site doesn't have room for side parking; all those spots that normally go along the driveway. So it's probably not all that much parking ultimately.

Probably not a lot, it just seems like any others I'm normally at the drive-thru which seems way busier than the lot...wild to me too that we warrant yet another McD's lol.

The new Fen's/Denny's/Starbucks/PetroCanada on Queensway (Mapleton) has an anticipated mid July opening date. Lots of finishing touches still require attending to in the last two weeks.

I saw my first "Denny's Moncton" advert on Facebook today too.

This presentation to PAC must be considered a fait accompli since construction fencing is already up and a construction trailer is on site. Some prep work has already been done.

Quote:
Variance Application:
• To reduce the required side yard setback from 12.0 metres to 2.1 metres at 2515 Mountain Road (PID 00939454); and
• To allow a 6-storey building above 18 metres in height at 2511 Mountain Road (PID 70723911).
There are really no nearby SFH property owners to raise a fuss, so I imagine this will be allowed to proceed as planned.

The renderings are the same as what we had already been aware of.

It is nice however to see the site plan:

The Wheaton's store on Mountain Road is planning as expansion:

Quote:
• Conditional Use application to allow a 314 square metre addition to an existing commercial use (Wheaton’s) that will increase the total gross floor area of the building to approximately 1,649 square metres.
The current maximal allowable size for a commercial establishment in this location is 1500 m2, hence the need for a variance from Moncton PAC,

The expansion will be to the back of the building.

Starbucks at the Fen's Market/Petro-Canada opened today.

It's huge on the inside, and easily the nicest Starbucks in town. It comes complete with dark green leather couches.

This shot only take in less than half the size of this store.

It shouldn't be a surprise really. This store is designed for weary travellers needing a break from the highway, as well as for drivers killing time while their EVs recharge. Of course it is going to be large and well appointed.

Is there EV charging at that pit stop?

Yes. Multiple chargers are/will be present.

I count 10 EV charging stations. I don't know how many are yet installed.

Petro-Can has the most unreliable ev chargers in the country, most ev drivers dont even bother.

If they are putting 10 of them in I hope they are much more reliable for their sake, and if they are then most drivers *will* stop here on their way through Moncton since a pit stop with 10 chargers is unheard of around the maritimes and basically gaurentees you will always be able to find a charge without waiting.

The EV chargers are integral to this "pit stop." It helps to justify the large Starbucks with abundant seating and the Denny's. In both cases, it gives you a place to kill a half hour or so while your car charges.

This new Petro-Canada service centre is in the vanguard of the type of 21st century service centres we will see popping up along the major highways in Canada as the era of internal combustion vehicles comes to an end.

In many ways these types of setups enhance road trips for drivers rather than be an inconvienence. They will help EV adoption rates as much as any tax incentives will

The EV experience is a social one and a reminder to enjoy things at a slower pace at times. It sounds weird at first but as someone who gets tired easily on long drives I actually love looking at a 5 hour drive and finding my pit stop half way through, and its nice to see that continuing to improve. In my two years driving my ev I talked with more drivers at charging stations than I ever did at a gas station in 20 years of driving a gas powered car. You get a nice feeling helping the senior struggling with figuring out the app, or letting the family of 5 know you only need another 5 minutes of charge left and you'll be on your way.

We still have a way to go before we can compete on the ONroute plazas in ontarion or the Halte Routière La Porte de l'Érable in Quebec, but this is a start and choosing to go with such a high number of chargers is a smart forward looking decision that will pay off in 3-5 years.
