Water St. St. John's being pedestrian during the summer is so smart. I really enjoyed walking in dowtowon St. John's, it was extremely enjoyable and all around a great atmosphere!

A few pics of Calgary's University District. I posted some last year, but the neighborhood is still evolving as construction continues.

A little background on the district. It's a greenfield build in NW Calgary that less than a decade ago was a large open field. The photos shown here are from phase 1, which is coming close to completion. Phase 2 a little to the south is starting construction. Both phases are expected to be done by 2034 and house a population of ~15,000 people when finished.

Yesterday's Canada Day Streetfest on Central in Burnaby was a fun free event for the whole family. The location cannot really be beaten for easy access with SkyTrain.

I believe the event is still quite new, as this was our first time there, having missed it in the past due to summer travels.

There was some great food to purchase from a dozen food trucks, although prices were pretty exorbitant. Still, portions were big, so not really complaining.

Main stage area was starting to fill up while we were there early in the evening. It's an impressive location with amazing backdrop.

It was busy and there was a lot to see and do. Definitely a very fun family-oriented event that I am happy takes place in our neighborhood.

I love how Civic Square was also being utilized by the event, making for a rather large area in total.

The event goes all the way into the night, ending with fireworks that can be worth seeing now that Vancouver's big Celebration of Light is unfortunately no more.

A few Canada Day shots taken by me. A typical Calgary July day. Sunny without a cloud in the morning, followed by an afternoon thunder storm, then back to sunny and literally no clouds, followed by a dinner time thunder storm and then back to a sunny evening.

And around Gottingen. The big lot to the right used to have some older school buildings on it and is being redeveloped. Looks like something got cleared for development on the left too. This used to be the "bad part" of town but gentrified a lot. The round church in the lower right was built in 1800.

Nice Burnaby (always good to see Klazu photos!) and Calgary Canada Day shots. I was in Calgary for Canada Day a couple years back - good vibes. Also Halifax and Rimouski looking good as per usual.

A few pics from Vancouver as I went over for the week with the main purpose of seeing the Greg Girard opening at the Polygon Gallery. Probably one of the best Canadian photographers over the past 50 years. Not very original photos from me, but alas I did not have time to do my usual wanderings by foot off the beaten path.

We recently went to try out the brand new Gravity Coaster on top of Grouse Mountain in North Vancouver.

I have really enjoyed the massive Canadian flag on top of Grouse this summer. The flag cannot be seen while up top, but it made of fabric and not painted on the ground, like I at first suspected.

This was our first time onboard the new Blue Gondola that opened in late 2024. It's a smooth and fast ride without a need to wait for the Red Mountain Gondola, which still runs parallel to the new gondola. The old Blue Gondola has been removed as a result of the new one getting built.

Views up top are nice as always, but it was surprisingly cold even for July.

Grouse Grind remains as popular as ever with many people making the strenuous trek up the mountain.

There is a lot to do on Grouse, which is included in the expensive entry ticket.

Lumberjack Show is always good time and lots of fun to watch.

The brand new coaster is 1,434 meters long and descends 91 meters with speeds up to 45km/h. Rider is fully in control of the speed, but it should be possible to experience 1.5g's on it, which is easy to believe based on my two rides.

It's quite a construction for just summer months every year. One has to wonder where all of the track is being storaged over winter.

All in all, it is a thrilling new ride and worth experiencing, even with the additional price. I definitely enjoyed a lot more than Cypress' Eagle Coaster few years ago. Go try it out!

Fantastic photos top to bottom on this page - thanks everyone for sharing. SHH - a bunch of your St. John's photos are not showing up but the ones that did look great.

Klazu - always love your explorations around the lower mainland. I'm not sure I'd trust that mountain coaster, looks pretty wild!

Masoliantekw - some great Quebec shots - wow, very inspiring. Did you use film or is that digital? The full thread is worth a visit and the description really helpful. Quebec is still near the top of my must see list, but I think it deserves it's own week vacation and not an add on to a Montreal trip for me personally.

Coldsrx - Edmonton also looks good in pics, hard to explain why but it feels easy to capture interesting and unique photos there, a reflection of the city.

I would agree. I think outside of Canada the Mexicans had the biggest. The one in the Calgary photo was at an outdoor pub called 'Cold Garden' A cool spot in Inglewood. It was one of several watch parties around the city for the Mexican side.
