The Carney government announced today a nearly $2 billion investment in 45 new locomotives for Via’s long distance and regional and remote services. The chosen vendor is Switzerland’s Stadler which touts its experience building locos for Scandinavian winter conditions. The money includes building of an assembly plant in Montreal.
