Looking at that Edmonton shot, I desperately want the LRT tunnel to extend down Jasper Avenue, a bit like I want a Skytrain line to reach the edge of Stanley Park to better serve the entire Downtown Peninsula.

Won't happen in my lifetime. They chose 104ave (Jasper is 4 blocks south) to run the new WLRT out to WEM (and beyond) in the middle of a stroad with 1/10th the density, but closer to post-secondary and future growth.

I took a ride down to the new Biidaasige Park expansion that opened this past weekend. I think this will be a new favourite part of the city. Such an amazing job with what they've done, and that view, wow. Broadview Park is now my second favourite view of the city skyline. I'll need to come back with a camera.

Amazing to see it from this angle

Edmonton: Canada's Sleeper Metro
Quietly building and growing quickly while most of the country isn't paying attention

Edmonton has been a sleeper hit for 15 years. People just think Calgary is the bees knees. Frankly, I love to watch the growth of metro Edmonton - quite possibly just to spite the love for Calgary (and I was born and raised in Calgary haha)

It's not so much the rest of the country isn't paying attention it's that the other big 6 metros are building and growing at a faster pace. Comparable sized cities like Calgary and Ottawa have built 4 or 5 times as many high rises in the past 20 years. The vast majority of the Edmonton highrises were built in the 60's and 70's and since then hasn't visibly changed at the same rate as the the other cities. It's population growth has been impressive, but it's been heavily suburban growth.

Are you just jealous that you cannot buy a 30x100 lot for $299k and drive to Tim's down the street?

Edmonton does fly under the radar, but every so often they build a Stantec type tower and remind us all they are here and growing very fast too. Like Calgary, a ton of growth in Edmonton has been suburban apartments and townhomes. Suburbs today are far more dense than they were 20 or more years ago. I would love to see a condo tower boom in Edmonton though, build up the urban areas a bit more.

every so often?... other than the Stance tower, what other tower have they built that is a similar type?, because I haven't seen any.
Lovely skyline nevertheless.

About once a decade they will build a big tower, last one before Stantec / Ice District was Epcor.
