The distribution centre will remain grocery only (general merchandise is sourced out of Cornwall ON), but, the corporation is considering on adding a general merchandise capacity sometime in the future.

The expansion is massive. They will be doubling the capacity of the distribution centre.

Work is not just imminent. It has already begun.........

Major projects included a $17.3-million permit for an addition and renovations at Walmart Canada Corporate at 135 Frenette Ave., a $7.3-million foundation permit at 80 Frenette Ave. issued to Comztar Inc. for a one-storey base building,

Again, this expansion is only for comestibles, but, with a valuation of $17.3M, confirms that this will roughly double the size of the current building.

Walmart may not be done yet. They may still build a general goods distribution centre here as well. I believe they have room for this.

As for Comztar, this site is located right across the street from the Walmart distribution centre. This may only be a single storey building, but, a valuation of $7.3M just for foundation work speaks to the size of the building. The building itself will be a multi-tenant leasable structure. Presumably they have some tenants lined up in order to proceed with this construction.

Anyone know what’s up with this apartment construction at 74 Mill Road? It was started last Spring, using blocks. Construction stopped about a year ago and it has been sitting untouched ever since. Just recently they’ve added wooden splints.

Now, the Petitcodiac Watershed Alliance is trying a new idea, known as a floating island, to prevent cyanobacteria blooms from forming in the future.

The group has built an artificial island full of plants that will reduce levels of nutrients in the water that cause blue-green algae blooms.

Last Friday, the team launched the island into its new home in the reservoir.

“We are installing a lot of native, water-loving plants onto the island, and all these will have their roots grow through the bottom of the island to facilitate the growth of a biofilm,” said Will Peabody, project leader at the Watershed Alliance.
