This would not include Highbury north of the 401 or Thames River. The handful of buildings between Wilton Grove and Ron McNeil would not be a major issue as most of that stretch is farm fields.

Expropriate some, build a service road adjacent for some. There would need to be a rejigging of some of the country roads anyway since I can't see overpasses being built for all of them. Be decades away anyway, lets worry about just widening it before thinking about expressway.

Veterans Memorial should suffice for East London. Almost all of the growth is in West London. This is where a new highway should go (or at least, a controlled access parkway, like Veterans). It really sucks having to spend 30 minutes on unWonderland Road just to get to the 401/403.

The most recent crash on Highbury Ave this weekend. The widening and reconstruction of this road between London and St Thomas can't start soon enough.

Things have been very quiet on this idea for a while now.

I don't think we could take another construction project on Highbury right now anyway. There are 3 of them still ongoing

1- BRT widening Oxford to Dundas (year 3 of 4)
2- Freeway rehab Hamilton to Bradley (year 1 of 2)
3- 401 interchange (year 4 of 5)

Once this all wraps up, give us a couple years without pylons and then we can start widening south to St. Thomas

right now would be perfect to be widening to St Thomas. Less traffic heading south because of all those other projects as people take other routes. Also it would be better to not be doing that work once VW is open, assuming it does. Which maybe that little bit of uncertainty in the air might be a reason why they hold off spending the money on Highbury right away too

They have poured the concrete approaches on both the north and south sides of the southbound portion of the Highbury-401 overpass. Alot of heavy equipment digging on south of the overpass on the west side.


Of note there is a considerable height change to the new southbound lanes.

Too bad the city screwed that post up. They mixed up eastbound and westbound detours and I also wasn't aware they had re-opened the exit ramp from the eastbound side unless they just did that in the last day or so. It was still closed on Wednesday.
