I agree, and I am hoping that this could create the need for a resurgence of Scotia Square retail.

I notice it's one of those buildings that isn't that dramatic but has a subtle effect, like when viewed as a backdrop to City Hall. It makes Scotia Square look a bit more like a dense group of towers and gives it less of a "pin cushion" effect from the narrow side of the old towers.

I'm curious how Scotia Square will play out:
- What's going on with the ground floor changes around this tower?
- Can more towers be added on top of the complex?
- What are the plans, if any, to improve the periphery of the complex now that the interchange is gone?
- What are the plans to update the interior? Will there be new stores like Sobeys or Winners in there as the residential population of the area goes up?

I at one point saw a massing plan that showed a midrise building in the parking lot / hotel entry area that's downhill from the Cogswell tower. I thought that could be a great addition to round out the block. Redeveloping the garage surrounding that tower into a podium with some street interaction would also be a big improvement.

By far the most impactful change, however, would be the levelling and grand redevelopment of the trade mart block into some sort of public event space / plaza with developments bordering it. Something like Avenue des Canadiens in Montreal.

Someone on here mentioned a while back that Crombie is planning
a similar redevelopment of the trademark building where they keep the podium and put 3-4 towers on top. Which has zoning for 40 stories IIRC. I wonder if they’re treating this build as a trial for a larger scale on the trademark.

Halifax Retales reported almost a year ago that The Keg would move from its longtime home on Market Street into the Marlstone. But I haven’t seen anything concrete to confirm it. I asked staff about it on my last visit and they said they have been told nothing. They believed any move was at least a year away.

The restaurant desperately needs to vacate the dark and rodent infested Market Street building, but I confess I’d hoped for a more compelling location than the Marlstone. For example, a prime waterfront setting like the chain’s Harbour Drive location in St. John’s.

I would love to see the Duke / Barrington corner re-done similar to what's in the video.

That corner is a hodgepodge of 80's and 90's attempts to update an otherwise brutalist design. The update shown in the video is a good example of how to treat and update brutalist elements by adding glass and transparency and reducing the severity of the concrete facade.

That video appears to be 8 years old already.

That iteration of International Place is different from the original version I remember, which was a replica of a sort of 1930s wedding-cake tower. Neither it nor this one appears great.

I had never seen that video before. I'd have to believe IP will never happen. At least not at that location since it's transformed so much since this was created.

I think that video was a rough sketch of a long-term site plan rather than a preview of building designs. They did end up building parts of it.

Hopefully they'll produce a new and updated plan that reflects the potential now that the interchange is gone.
