Seriously the fines are not high enough for this kind of stupidity. The snapping turtles you can often see at the south end of Mill Pond from the boardwalk are huge and likely approaching 100 years old. Hopefully some survived.

Metal theft is a serious problem and getting worse every year. The proposals to address this are a good first step.

According to the report, the telecommunications industry estimates a 200 per cent increase in theft and vandalism incidents from 2022 to 2024. It considers these crimes that threaten public safety and human life.

The Senate report makes three recommendations:

That the Government of Canada amend the Criminal Code to impose more serious penalties for metal theft that causes damage to critical or essential infrastructure.
That the Government of Canada encourage the provincial and territorial governments to regulate the sale of scrap metal, including by keeping a record of transactions and the origin of the met
That the Government of Canada create a task force on metal theft to promote information sharing among law enforcement agencies.

Rat infestation problem is human created. Why people think they need to put out food for the birds and squirrels is beyond strange. They don't need human help to feed themselves EVER.


Don't put out your garbage the night before or days before pickup. It's just fine dining for all the rats, mice, raccoons, skunks etc etc.


Some educational effort should be made by the City to teach folks the do's and don't s. There are people who must honestly believe they are helping the poor wild animals by putting out food.

They are being parented by social media, a entity that they endlessly dwell in anonymously in an environment that frequently encourages negative behaviour - all without any consequences for such actions. It is hardly surprising that this would eventually migrate from the cyber world into similar behaviour in the real world.

Unless negative behaviour is challenged by meaningful consequences, nothing will change and likely will get worse. With time we can expect such youth evolve into antisocial adults as they get older.

They need to feel pain.
