No. I saw one of the window panes shattered already, they are probably fixing it.

The glass work reminds me of Stage 1 of the O-Train, where glass panes are the norm. High quality stuff, but very fragile apparently.

Are you talking about the railings, or the roof over the stairs?

The roof over the stairs has been broken for several months now...See far right hand side, third photo, of PonyBoy's post #322, previous page. I noticed this broken glass in May..ish. Not really a structural concern, I don't think, what with the laminated glass, but certainly needs to be replaced. Its a nightmare because of the miracle of architecture. The glass ties into the copper, drain lines, structural caulking at the stiffening webs, and ect ect.

Unfortunately just like the polished chrome towers up top there are some glaring deficiencies. I don't understand how this flies? Imagine building a bathroom for someone and there is an entire row of tiles that is just messed up and you just have your hand out to get paid? Is this an Ottawa thing? These are major projects? Do we not have competent labour and machinists and crafters?

Anyhow.. aside from all that... This looks freaking amazing in the sunlight. So nice to finally have the lower path opened behind Parliament. Walked that yesterday for the first time in 3? years.

Yeah, I was never a fan of the bronze curtain and I think this confirms it. It's fine from afar, but I would have preferred a flat, clean stone face like we had before.

I personally don't mind the wabi-sabi-ness of the shroud. I think it is part of the aesthetic of Gehry-esque deconstructionism to celebrate some imperfection and unfinished detail in the same way that rough cast concrete was part of Brutalism.

Strange to me that it could have been just like a large, small-opening 'net' of metal of some kind, and just supported from the top and bottom. But then we designed by committee and ended up with a large space frame and a tartan weave mesh of varying density? What happens when the tube frame inevitably starts to corrode?

Don't get me wrong, I like the big swing of this architectural gusto. But still, everyone's an expert!

The building kind of reminds me of a World's Fair pavilion.

I remember going into Spain's pavilion at the Shanghai Expo2010 and it had a woven skin over a similar metal structure.
