There will be others. The need for housing is still very high, but the investor market, which fuelled much of the 20-year boom, is gone.

maybe an unpopular opinion, but the angles captured in those drone shots of Toronto are quite unflattering for Toronto. ...at least by Toronto standards.. maybe it's just the height of the drone.

Partly the height perhaps. But I think the bigger issue is that compared to a lot of skyscraper cities, Toronto has a different structure than most outside the financial district. Most either have a lot of tall buildings mixed with medium height buildings like NY, Chicago, and Sydney. Or they have highrises that are packed more densely like Hong Kong, But in parts of central Toronto like around Yonge between Wellesley down to Shuter, there were mostly small buildings of 4 or fewer stories or skyscrapers over 150m. So the lack of medium scale buildings and the space between highrises in those parts of downtown give it a kind of desolate look from above.

It's too bad both men who envisioned this never got to see it's completion.

I could only get through like 3 minutes of the video.

Supertalls come in many different packaging. Toronto's residential supertalls are more comparable to Australia's than either New York or Chicago. A supertall is a much bigger height achievement in Toronto with few exceptions to those cities. It's a matter of the standard 3 metre floor heights. It takes more floors and more floors take more time and a lot more upfront investment. A 100 storey tower with 1000 units saves land but, it the opposite of obtaining affordability via new supply and the premium construction costs apply to pricing. More height solving all of Canada current record deficit spending and record taxation to build the necessary housing for the financially incentivize largely talentless flocking to Canada is wishful thinking.

The number proposed/approved are irrelevant to building one of these. Getting one zoned particularly with all governments pro development is the first 10 metres of the 300 total needed to break ground.

Progress on the 1 Bloor West crown - looks like the crane should be coming down in the not-too-distant future?

They are finally moving again with the windows and cladding. Who will finish first, this or Skytower?

The B1M has declined in quality over the years. The channel is now a step removed (barely) from being AI slop and it's disappointing because at one time it was really quite good at what it did.

It is pretty obvious now that the main guy is now primarily a narrator who relies on researchers and writers to create the content for videos that rely as much as possible on stock footage. There may be a project PR person or architect spliced in, but it's clear that a local video freelancer is the one in the room and there is no real depth to the 'interview' that would otherwise have resulted from a knowledgeable person having an actual conversation.

Moreover, the videos now rarely, if ever, demonstrate any actual critical thinking about what is proposed or claimed (B1M videos about Neom and The Line, I'm looking at you).
