Great info, thanks! I've flown on one and the difference in Y isn't all that apparent unless you're tall. Not a huge deal on the YHZ-LHR route either, my flying time, June 19, was about 5:10:00. About the same as YHZ-YYC and much shorter than YHZ-YVR.

Thanks, that is good to know. Luckily I am not a tall person. They have the Rouge max slated to return to the YHZ-YVR route in May 2027. Right now I think people are happy that the A220/C series is flying the Vancouver route.

On another note I recently flew on an Air Transat A321LR from BCN (Barcelona) to YUL and was pleasantly surprised that they had 31 inch pitch on that aircraft. It made me chuckle that a discount airline now offers more comfortable space and seating than our mainline full service carriers of either Westjet or Air Canada.

I'm 6, 1 and avoid Rouge even on a relatively short flight such as London. Dear Air Canada, I shall choose any other airline if you provide Rouge as your only option.

Just Planes Bermudair YHZ-BDA (Bermuda) Video

This is a very cool Just Planes video of a Bermudair Embraer E190 flight from YHZ-BDA.

WestJet Removes YHZ-YXE/YQR Routes in 2027

In searching through the upcoming 2027 summer routes from YHZ on Google Flights I noticed that the previously loaded YXE and YQR Westjet flights have been removed. Both routes had initially been scheduled with two weekly flights starting in late April 2027. In checking the WestJet non-stop flight schedule to confirm this it is now only showing both flights operating until September 2026. This is unfortunate. Hopefully this will change in future schedule changes.

Can’t imagine there would be much call for nonstop service to Saskatoon and Regina from Halifax. I recall flying to Regina a couple of decades ago and connecting through Ottawa or Winnipeg.

I am not sure about the destination traffic from Saskatchewan to NS either. WestJet have set YHZ up as a mini hub for their nine European seasonal flights though, operated by their Boeing 737 max 8’s. These flights from both Saskatoon and Regina were put in place to feed these European flights along with extra flights from Edmonton, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Calgary, Detroit and Toronto. This is based on the Icelandair model in Keflavik. I suspect aviation fuel prices have not helped in keeping these Saskatchewan routes operating.

I'm not sure of the demand and market trends but there's been a lot of demographic growth. Halifax-Saskatoon for example has a lot more population (and wealth) in total than it did 20 years ago.

It's similar with discussions of Halifax-Moncton and rail. In 1991 you had about double the train service for something like 40% fewer people. Plus half of those trains went to Saint John.

YHZ June 2026 & YTD Passenger Statistics

Halifax Stanfield International Airport
Passenger Statistics Report - Executive Summary

June 2026

Year over Year

June

Sector / 2026 Actual / 2025 Actual / Variance
Domestic / 366,662 / 323,351 / 13.4%
Other International / 65,983 / 46,667 / 41.4%
Transborder / 40,348 / 25,998 / 55.2%
Total / 472,993 / 396,016 / 19.4%

Year-to-Date

Sector / 2026 Actual / 2025 Actual / Variance
Domestic / 1,566,290 / 1,415,145 / 10.7%
Other International / 299,265 / 271,739 / 10.1%
Transborder / 140,495 / 162,096 / (13.3%)
Total / 2,006,050 / 1,848,980 / 8.5%

June 2026 has brought on another impressive jump in YHZ passenger traffic for all three sectors. Much of this is brought on by the growth in Westjets European and Western Canadian route expansion. They have created a mini hub in YHZ transferring passengers from all Canadian destinations to Europe using their Boeing 737 max 8 aircraft.

It's intriguing that transborder traffic is burgeoning even as airlines continually cut transborder capacity.

Speaking of which, I'd really like Porter to re-instate YHZ-TPA, though I'm not optimistic. Also Jetblue YHZ-BOS.

I wonder if a lot of that transborder traffic is americans flying to Europe through Halifax? Earlier this year coming out of Heathrow to Halifax I noted that my AC flight was code shared with UA on the departures board.

I think a lot of the transborder increase is due to the new daily United ORD route and WestJets daily DTW flight. The ORD flight started in May and is scheduled to operate daily until August 10 when it reverts to a weekly Saturday flight until the end of October. Not quite sure why it is downgraded in August when that is traditionally the busiest travel month but they must have their reasons. The WestJet DTW flight operates until October 23. Unfortunately I can’t see it in the schedule for 2027 yet though.

Yes I wish Porter would reinstate the TPA flight and JetBlue would reschedule a YHZ launch as well. Fingers crossed!
