However, this is a very thinly populated part of the state and as I mentioned in previous posts, Ohio was settled very rapidly after it was founded by
new European immigrants,
not Southerners,
not Virginians. The German Catholics were the founding group in much of the region's towns and countryside.
Something interesting about Ohio's physical layout is that it was the first state to be divided into 1-mile squares, EXCEPT for the Virginia section.
