Very likely that YYC was part of the ITI project, until they decided to desterilize the international departure area.

Nice looking structure and it's more than triple the size of the old ATB.And Nice big Thermal Syphons

This was talked about for so long. The old one was renovated quite a bit but was in pretty bad shape. This one looks great, Maybe one day Ill get back there.

Who knows with Defense Construction starting up the FOL will be upgraded, And the AngioEagle mine expansion. I may be able to get a contract on one.

Ive seen images of the interior and it looks great. They actually have a passenger holding area now. Anyone traveling from Yellowknife to Iqaluit will get this as a stop.

Heres a shot of the old one

It's because the PAL contract was initially a stopgap measure to cover for Jazz staffing shortages. Now that the agreement with PAL has been both extended and expanded, the first PAL DH4 in AC Express livery is now in service - FIN 966.

PAL will still continue to operate their own branded flying that is separate from AC.

Nice shot of YQM, especially capturing the two Rouge 319s who are running on borrowed time. I’m kinda surprised that YQM’s never added a 3rd loading bridge.

There are plans for a third bridge.

They are also going to separate arrivals and departures on two different levels, put in another departure lounge restaurant option, and there are firm plans for an airport hotel on the airport property (unfortunately on the other side of the parking lot rather than directly connected).

The airport hotel will be moderately large. I believe the valuation is set somewhere around $28M. It will also contain a branded restaurant of some form. The reason why it is going in across the parking lot from the terminal is that it wll give the hotel great visibility from Highway NB-15 which passes the airport on the way to Shediac, PEI and northern NB.

Hotel construction may start later this year. The other improvements are near to medium term.

Not many airports where you see the jet bridges go up from the terminal building to the aircraft. Putting the departure level on the second floor takes care of that issue.

YOW’s been hammered by thunderstorms this afternoon. 19 cancellations and a couple of dozen delays.

How do forumers feel about this? It seems kind of sad that in a nation of forty million our two largest airlines don't think Canadians are good enough to run the company.

SAS AB Chief Executive Officer Anko van der Werff is emerging as a frontrunner to lead Air Canada, according to people familiar with the matter, succeeding Michael Rousseau, who said in March he’d leave after a public outcry over his omission to speak French in a corporate video.

Van der Werff has led the Scandinavian airline for about five years, helping the carrier emerge from bankruptcy and restoring operations after the pandemic. He also led the Colombian airline Avianca between 2019 and 2021, and held senior roles at Grupo Aeromexico, Qatar Airways and Air France-KLM...

.....A Dutch national, Van der Werff speaks Dutch, English and Spanish, and has a basic understanding of Italian, Swedish and French, according to a 2021 release from the airline....

Limited number of senior executives that run airlines in the world and they bounce around. The current CEO of Air France/KLM was a senior VP at Air Canada and some say was being groomed to head up Air Canada. However Air France/KLM ended up making him an offer.

Getting a CEO that was an executive at another airlines is probably a good thing in that brings best practices.

As long as he's a competent choice, would anyone really care? Canadians take exective positions with foreign companies.

Sounds to me like they're not very good at succession planning if their VP bench doesn't have the talent to run the business.

Yeah, was going to say if Ben Smith can go run AF/KLM, then we can't complain that someone from outside Canada comes and runs AC. I remember Smith used to post on the Flyertalk forums 20 or so years ago.

Air Service One Article on Porter Airlines

This Air Service One article provides a good overview of Porters rapid expansion over the last few years.

Air Canada lost its A team to other airlines. Two that have been stepping growing with the firm are:
Craig Landry, John Di bert.

Mark Nasr is the other one, but likley still too inexperienced.
Ones an accountant, other aeroplan. Both can speak french. Both exectutives right now. The others are either too old, or not right fit (yet).

Really though it was Ben Smith everyone thought would take over who is no longer there.

Canada and Mongolia sign a bilateral air transport agreement for the first time. Each country is allocated 3 pax flights per week and an unlimited number of cargo flights are permitted.

https://www.newswire.ca/news-releases/th...tween-canada-and-mongolia-865778504.html

I'd be surprised if anyone jumps at trying to snag these slots anytime soon.

WS has filed its winter 787 schedule. Should hit the booking system later today. Doesn’t appear like any long hauls replaced GRU in November or March? (But shall see).

Also appears like OGG and SJD also planned on the 787 too.

Would MAIT interested in using YVR as their North American gateway? They have a couple of 789s, and currently fly daily to FRA and 3x weekly to IST. They are looking at North American flights, but seems like interested in the USA more.

They would need AC at a minimum as a codeshare partner. It would require massive O&D stimulation not just for YVR but North America as a whole.
