Has anyone heard what is being done with the old Great Canadian Bagel building in Dieppe??

The missus, who works nearby, said she's hearing rumours that they are tearing it down to build another apartment building on that spot.

I can't see that in that spot, but who knows!

Westcliffe has done mixed use renos with some of their malls in Quebec, so you never know. This lot is owned by them as well.

They are currently towing cars from that empty lot if someone parks there.

Like you say...who knows.

This mixed use building is now on it's fourth (and I believe) final floor.

Renders are still unavailable, but, it is definitely a mixed use building with ground floor commercial of some kind.

I took a drive yesterday around Elsliger St/Rue des Eleves off of Dieppe Blvd, around Ecole le Marais/Ecole Anna Malenfant.

Holy friggin crap!!!. Talk about an instant neighbourhood, and a high density one too, with multiple row houses and small apartment buildings (especially at the far end). I can't believe the change in the last few years since the last time I drove through there.

Some people say that Dieppe is knocking on a population of 40,000. I'm beginning to believe it! With Moncton and Riverview, the contiguous built up urban area (POPCTR) of greater Moncton is about 165,000 (CMA population 200,000).

The whole Melanson area is booming. Fun fact the Ecole le Marais is shaped like a lobster if you look at it from above, which is kinda neat. The only thing this area is lacking is commercial retail. The closest grocery stores, restaurants, gas, pharmacies etc are over 3km away. Not really within walking distance for a lot of people. Hopefully the new extension of Dieppe Blvd will help with this.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the future of the Dieppe Blvd extension will be almost entirely residential/institutional/parkland. I still think the new anglophone k-12 school will be built there. The roadway appears to be only two lane, and, the multiple roundabouts planned for the extension will be conducive to traffic calming, favouring a residential future.

Perhaps at's it's southernmost point, where Dieppe Blvd will transition to Dover Road you could see some commercial being built, but this still leaves the Melanson Road area as a bit of a commercial/retail desert.........

Perhaps when the Bridgedale Blvd to Melanson road bridge gets built the loop down Dieppe blvd to enter Riverview and loop around to west Moncton avoiding downtown will spark commercial interest.

It should have been designed as 4 lanes the whole way. Odd oversight given the growth to date.

I don't drive out that way often so I don't know when it happened, but, the traffic lights at the intersection of Amirault with Dover Road and the Dieppe Blvd extension have been installed. They are currently flashing yellow, so activation must be planned at some point in the near future.

To the east of this intersection, it appears that Amirault is in the process of being widened to add extra traffic lanes. They may wait until this is done before the lights are activated.

There has been extensive work on the Dieppe Blvd extension to the north of the intersection. Street lights have been installed, the roadway has been gravelled and curbing is underway. It actually look as if the street could be opened by the end of the year if they wanted to put the afterburners on, but, I think the plan was to have opened it next year. Things are progressing rapidly though.

The Elsliger development is impressive, I took my friend who come from smaller place to show him the density and also the lack of planning by the city no sidewalk with such a density ... no trails or park it's a shame. Kids will go play at the school nearby, but a sidewalk is needed and I do agree that Dieppe blvd for what it is intended to it should be 4 lane all the way. I think we are at 40,000 peoples looking at all the development.
