I actually don't mind 90 Sparks, think it works well for that corner with the overhang/smaller footprint.

I nominate our own standalone fighter, Cockroachzilla:

Oof! Looks like either a Holiday Inn stretched vertically or Clockzilla's neckless cousin.

Edit: Is that building office or residential?

Apartments (170 Lees Ave).

They got a facelift a few years ago, but they didn't manage to get rid of the roaches, apparently.

It was built in the 60s and renovated in the early 2010s iirc. Lots of students.

Roach Rez before the reno:

I remember in undergrad that there were 2 bedroom units in that building that housed up to 10 students from China, complete with temporary walls to divide up the unit. I don't think anyone was particularly dirty or unhygienic, but anytime you get that density of people you get rats and roaches!

Main body is 90 Sparks. Not an abomination in and of itself, but because it takes up an entire block where all the other buildings are heritage or at least heritage-inspired:

Right arm is 415 Maclaren, Ottawa's tallest sidescraper:

Google images gives you a better idea of its horror

Legs and left arm are inspired by City Centre:

I agree that it's too big. At least the glass curtain wall reflects the heritage facades across the street.

Wow, it's 616 Kirkwood's identical twin. Must be the same architect:

Fair play re City Centre

Long before it was renovated I remember spending a couple nights there crashing on a friend's couch after nights out when I couldn't be bothered taking the bus the whole way home. It was a VERY grim building.

This one off Bronson didn't look as bad on the outside but was even worse inside - I was warned not to take the elevators as they constantly broke and there was trash in all the hallways (appears to have had renos since as well): https://maps.app.goo.gl/wANrECMqQG5TnfM18

415 Maclaren was red brick once. Didn't mind it when it was red brick. A lot of 70s towers in Ottawa that were bare concrete or red brick have been painted charcoal, all now deserving to be on this thread.

I don't mind the 90 Sparks facade on Sparks. The problem is the Metcalfe and Queen faces.
Here's the corner of Sparks and Metcalfe. Queen is all that metal cladding with horizontal window stripes.

The building was actually before the 80s renovation. A mid-century beauty.

And the white Reno Depot construction site doors too.

Upon closer inspection it appears that they covered up an older building and added this as a glass atrium / porch.
