Good to see it get approved. Now we need rapid transit in the area. At the very least, the West BRT leg plan should be restored. I am also of the opinion that Wonderland could easily support a BRT from Southdale to Fanshawe Park.

indeed. Wonderland does double duty as a (commuter) through road, and as a (destination) shopping road. I believe it is already the busiest road in the city, and this will only increase as the two fastest growing areas of London (NW and SW, both close to Wonderland) continue to add more population (and concomitantly, more retail/services).

I think you could argue a Wonderland Road RT plan would be among the most used in the city. With all of the new builds on both the North / South ends plus access to 401/402 its only going to get busier.
Would love to see them bring back the widening plan and just make those lanes RT only.

Apparently the Swiss Chalet is now closed clearing the way for a demolition permit if they want to set the stage for this high rise proposal.

Looks like we won’t be seeing this 25-storey building anytime soon... York's updated site-plan is showing Dollarama going in where the old Swiss Chalet was (which was where this building was supposed to go)






And sure enough, a building permit was filed last week for the Dollarama renovation:

Not all that surprised by this given they would likely be looking at next decade before they would even consider putting a shovel in the ground here. Why not lease the space for many years as a Dollarama. The same business rational would have likely meant they would build the two 32s towers at the SE corner at Oxford and Wonderland before this location anyway.

The most odd part to me is that it's a Dollarama and not anything else. There already is a brand new Dollarama just down the road in the mall at Wonderland and Oxford, beside the Goodwill.

Highbury and Huron has two. I can only imagine this is going to have WAY more available traffic to it, given the amount of apartments there are

Next, they will be building adjacent Dollaramas. Maybe add one to the Sherwood Forest Mall (no matter if there is already one).

I get a kick out of the fact that the Highbury/Huron corner has two (2) Dollaramas.

Work well underway now to convert the old Swiss Chalet into a Dollarama. Likely only 4-6 weeks away from opening. Typical 5 year lease and York won't be building their apartment building proposal until 2031 at the earliest.
